I'm going to wire the lights up on my 74 WR 250 to get it road legal , but the dip beam has blown on the light unit , does anybody know where I could get a replacement unit from ?

I have seen a 4 1/2" light for a tractor , but don't know if that would do the job ?

Cheers Grouty ! I'd prefer to try and get one within the UK / EU , to avoid the import tax etc. I am going to contact the dealer of the tractor light on monday , as they are only 10 miles away.

If that won't do the job, I will get in touch with Paul Stannard.

    Are you running 6v or 12v ?
It would be good to know that they are available in the UK.

I'm going to run it on 12v , may fit an Electrex ignition and lighting coil , not decided yet .

I'll let you know what the outcome is with the tractor light , it looks like it will work, but a couple of the dimensions that are on the spec sheets are conflicting , one sheet says that it is 110mm dia. another says 115mm , 110mm should do it but 115mm would be too big for the housing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed :)

I have used the auto/ tractor sealed beam bulbs with no issue. Don't get the higher wattage because it will melt the lens cover. I bought a bike with a 60 watt bulb in it and it melted my lens cover.

That's good to hear ! Thanks for the heads up on the wattage , I can't see any mention of the wattage for the light on the dealers site but I will make sure I ask them tomorrow.

    Cheers

There are plenty of options out there for replacement inserts. They are a common 4.5" or 114mm standard size insert found in many accessory Harley/cruiser lights. i think they also go by the name of PAR36 inserts

I am going to fit this to my Petty light as it then allows a replacement globe to be used.

Yes, a 12v 60w melted my lens cover. After a 1 day ride it got hot enough to melt.

Thanks for letting me know. I think 35W HID conversion might be the go then rather than 60/55w globe. or maybe the clear cover can be modified/cut out so heat does not build up behind it.

This company does high quality LED inserts too which are road legal

I just want to add, proceed with caution with that ebay UK Vespa insert as i now think it may be 140mm and not 114/115mm There are vespas that use this size so i am trying to find out genuine Piaggio part number. i will report back when i find out more details. This would be ok though

I used a tractor headlight in the end , think it was the fitment for a International tractor ? It was cheap as well, so I won't get to upset if it blows :-)

We need a good LED replacement because they draw so much less power and are bright enough to make people mad..well maybe that isn't real good, but they can see you coming.
I have the glass in mine but the whole bulb and mounting and wires are missing.

Is there a replacement LED bulb kit that would work?..I see replacement bulbs that could get stuffed in there with a little bodgery but with the low poer available I would think that Andy or similar would have had this dialed in by now ...

boy, they are pretty cool, and they better be for $800!..yeouch!

thanks for the links..that is a good start.

    here's a maybe solution:
    this EMGO lamp:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrome-4-5-...ash=item25aa5fa77f:g:W58AAOSwLVZVsSZ1&vxp=mtr

    with this H4 mount 40w LED Hi/Lo beam bulb?...at $50/2?

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/80W-8000LM-KIT-H4-HB2-9003-Hi-Lo-HID-White-6000K-Car-CREE-LED-Headlight-Bulbs-x2/281781827096?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIC.MBE&ao=1&asc=20131003132420&meid=0fb3beae6138473e85923afb52e10387&pid=100005&rk=3&rkt=6&sd=261721317267

What I see is maybe a $75 MC lamp with 40w and a hi lo beam. yeah yeah, it's an ugly chopper lamp, but still......paint it black.

It's $75, and only 40W draw in your poor antique electrical outlet, see?...now you can add the DVD player.

There is something I probably don't see, that's what you lot are for...:)
