I might have to do that as well haha. Have you ridden with that light? How hot does the led get?

I have these chunks of aluminum to make up some light bars with, but that is so damn simple.

I'm impressed. Mind doing a write up on the parts used?

I've been thinking about the same idea here with some small LED lights ... I like the idea of keeping my number plates on my bikes all the time AND need some light incase I arrive home too late in the evening due to unknown reasons that seem to pop up ...

I've got a friend here who has a 9v battery powering his LED light ..

    Some LED knowledge ..

I used the same led/optic as the OP, but I got the housing kit from led supply as well. I set mine up to run off of some r/c car batteries I already had on hand. I got 3 hours run time from the packs in the pic, which is much better than I was expecting. I have some higher capacity batteries I'll test out some time this week.

During my testing, I had to put a fan blowing over the housing after about 30 minutes as it was getting quite hot. I think it should be ok on the bike since it will have air flowing over it when riding.

This is my prototype mount I was messing with. If I had thought more about it, I would have drilled/tapped the housing for mounting bolts before I assembled it. Oh well.

Are those LEDs 12V? If so, would be easy to wire in a reg/rec and run them off the stator.

The driver will take 10-32v input. I didn't want to mess with anything on the bike, hence the batteries (that I already had)

In case anybody was curious, battery power review.

A pair of 2200 2s lipo packs went for 3 hours before hitting the minimum voltage for the packs. Figure on 2.5 hours of safe use.

The pair of 5000's went 7:45, so about ~7 hours for them.

These are the batteries I used (because I already had them):

    5000's

I had them wired in series to provide the voltage required as they are only 2s packs. A 4s pack would provide the correct voltage in a single pack.

Obviously you can get higher capacity packs as well if you needed longer run time.

Also note, I was running my light at full power. They can be dimmed as well which I'm sure would help the run time.

Just got a chance to finish my mount. Btw the light is completely sealed. And the driver is sealed as well. The driver will sit off to the side stick to the number plate.

Here is how mine is wired. From the batt with an inline 5amp mini fuse. Now you can wire it differently if you want. Closest 12vdc power source and ground.

I forgot the inline fuse in this pic.

The light is 1600 lumens. The iPhone pics don't do it justice. It's just barely shy of a new BMW headlight output on low
This is with my 12vdc setup. I'm not sure if the other setup is 12vdc. Not good at math and batt output lol

The batteries are 16.8v fully charged and run down to about 12.5v (although after 14v, the batteries start to drop off pretty quickly).

The brightness does not change with the higher voltage as leds are limited to a certain voltage/current, running them higher than recommended is a good way to let out the magic smoke.

That's some decent light output for something so tiny. I recently started working for a company that designs & makes commercial lights with state of the art LED technology. Alas, I'm in the machine shop & don't get to work with the bulbs & electronics. But I may have to start asking about what I can do with the available resources & opportunities. Definitely putting this thread on my watched list. I need to learn more.

I run the Trail Tech HID set up on my 9 310 with no issues. ( it does take a bit 45sec or so to switch lo to high beam)
