    Hi

I'm building a road/track special and yet to choose an engine.

I had a 1998 TE610 (non-oil pump motor) which was seriously impressive, and I'd love to fit one of those if I can find one. I do have the option of an SM610 engine but I seem to remember them being pretty feeble, something like 36bhp. I also read the valve and inlet angle is actually slightly better on those, so they have more potential but need work to be as good as the older engine.

Who is doing engine work on husky 610 engines these days?

Also, I hear the SWM 650 engine is basically a Husky... what's everyone's thoughts on those, and can you get the parts?

    Many thanks,
    Andy

Parts for 610s are increasingly spotty, you can get most things, some only from europe or ebay and some can get expensive. The forums also seem sleepy these days so less advice. Its an esoteric bike, not so many out there. The EFI models plus ibeat and a power comamander can get good performance and are good runners.

The SWM is essentially a 630 but with more chinese parts inside, I think it is skightly narrower gearing than my te610; I wouldnt bet on SWM keeping in production. Some variant of the engine will probably live on, its expensive to get an engine through emissions. But think of husqvarna -> cagiva -> bmw/ktm -> swm... Ive become a bit jaded. Still enjoy my 610
