Anyone know of a company that makes a helmet to helmet communication system? Its getting annoying to pull over and shut our bikes off to hear each other when me and my buddys go out on group rides.

    Thanks a bunch.

I would contact Baja Designs (San Diego Ca, based). Talk to Diego. BD has helmet radio systems that are plug and play. These are used by Baja race teams with great success. Diego will answer all your questions.

Better to spend a little bit more initially for top quality gear that will last a long time.

    Good luck,

I use the Scala Q2 from Cardo Systems. They work really well and although they say an effective distance of 500m we only get about 100m on the trails. It only works between two riders but there is a new version (G4 I think) that links up 4 riders.

    Worth a look.

    Autocom is the big name.

Otherwise I'd suggest kitting yourself with a couple of little handheld transceivers. Here riders mustering cattle use a 477MHz hand held in a chest harness. 5W through a short whip (you get used to it poking over the shoulder) is good for about 20km line of sight. Some of the bargain basement 1W units will struggle to make 500m.
Your un-licenced 27MHz band should offer better range especially around obstructions at slight cost to audio quality. Another option for you is GMRS.

I have the Scala Q2 as well and it works very well. The bluetooth phone connection on it is very impressive. I can be doing 70 on the road and talking on it and the other person doesn't even know I'm on a motorcycle.

btw, I may be interested in selling mine since I no longer have a road bike. PM me if you're interested.

I used the Cardo Scala 2 on a recent CO trip and it was most excellent.

Sampson racing to be the best. almost all the systems over $200 are the same So it comes down to the company. Sampson def goes out of the way to make sure your happy.

We use the sampson setup with billet push to talk and Yaesu ft-60 radios but Sampson sells offroad radios for those who dont have a Ham radio licence

We bought a after market antenna that seems to help a ton.

Audio is crystal clear at 80mph+ its amazing, I cant

Feel free to ask me any questions, Ive been through this whole setup more than once.

I use the chatterbox XBi2 and love it. I pair my phone with it and listen to music, when a call comes in, I can talk to whoever called me. Recently, another guy bought one and we could communicate bike to bike like you're talking on the phone. It's bluetooth and can pair up to 3 people. I love the chatterbox. It even has an option to add an aux like a two way radio.
