I am ordering a Lynx from Britannia, here's a portion of Ian's email reply to me:

"""One issue that I think you need to look into is the electrical output. The HID's draw 35w each and, as you point out, if they are wired to alternate (no problem) then you will only draw the same as the OEM light. But, what I'm not sure about is that I think your OEM light operates on an AC circuit, whereas ours draw their DC power direct from the battery (and are 'triggered' by your OEM lighting circuit via relays). I'm not knowledgable enough about the electrics on your bike to know whether there is enough charging power to the battery to replace the 35w coming out, even if the OEM light circuit is no longer being used. In other words, does the power from the unused headlight, go back into the battery, or not."""

Does the 2010 TE450 headlight run on AC?

Until I upgrade the alternator, I will be wiring the low and high beams to "alternate" (only one on at a time).

I am assuming that the relay he talks about (in bold) is the relay that waits until the motor is running to turn on the headlights. Am I correct?

I am assuming that the unused stock headlight wattage will end up going to the battery. Am I correct on this?

Will I be able to wire to the relay that waits for the motor to turn on the headlights AND wire the Lynx HIDs straight to the battery OR if the HIDs are wired straight to the battery, are they gonna come on as soon as the key is turned on?

Many thanks to any electrician who can help me on this, I can do alot of stuff, electrics ain't one of 'em.

    Headlight circuit is AC

Many have converted to HID - I haven't. I don't think they went as far as floating the ground or anything. I think they just used the DC from Battery. do a search that info exists (trailtech HID instal). I don't think you "need" to upgrade your stator- ours are pretty good already. Short of running optional everything that exsists and hooking it to the system least...

Thanks for the info, I've had another guy tell me that the 35w saved from disconnecting the stock headlight and diverting it to the battery is NOT enough to make up the difference, at least on his bike. I guess I will hook this thing up and see if my charging rate is enough to keep up, if not, then I'll upgrade.

    off to google "floating ground"

Kelly from Motorsportz could probably tell ya for sure if your bike needs anything changed for HID- he deals with the Trailtech X2 HID. Like I said I haven't looked into HID much. I know it needs DC and no I don't think you necessarily save all the amps from the AC circuit by not using the AC circuit. But more will be availble to the DC circuit than normal by not using the AC circuit- DC is more stable and consistant- The AC Circuit fluxuates more with RPM and such- for instance you won't drain a battery by having a 100 amp light hooked to the ac circuit- it will just get brighter the faster you go and your horn won't work.

Kelly also sells a Trailtech Stator upgrade for the Husky which can include "floating the ground". If you aren't familiar with 'floating the ground" here's a link to a discussion with 3 very good instructions in it. The KTM EXC stator is pretty much the same set up so the instructions are worth familiarizing yourself with and making decisions from here....
here's that link hope the internall links still work:o>>>Click<<<

also if you look at the bottom of this thread there are "similiar threads" in reguards to the Lynx instal on 610's and 630's - might help...

Got it up and running, 98% done, but one problem.

When changing to Brights, no problem, the little Blue light on dash comes on for Brights. When switching back to Low, my dashboard seems to "reboot", goes blank, shows an error code, 22 I think, then goes back to normal life, the bike keeps running and it doesnt do it every time I switch back down to Low.

    Speedo has quit working now
