I loved the one time I got to ride this place. Help save it... http://www.savethetrails.us/Default.aspx?PetitionID=44 Kelly
Thank you, Kelly Time is of the essence, everyone. We only have a few days left. Please click on the link in the first post and send in a few comments. The only things you have to actually type in are your name and e-mail address. The rest is just clicking on boxes. You will get an e-mail sent to you. Click on the link and it will send your letter. Just choose a few of the boxes, preferrably in random order, and feel free to add any comments you like. Thank you! It is! It is the best riding around...or should I say "was" before the BLM closed it under false pretenses. This is where the Quicksilver National Enduro had been held for many years. It was recognized as one of the tougher rounds on the schedule year in and year out. The hosting club owns property that backs up to this land. We also lost the Wild Boar Enduro (one of the toughest on the D36 circuit) and the Wild Piglet Family Enduro, which would normally be held next weekend Thank you so much, David. It is truly appreciated This is a tiny peek at what we stand to lose... And this is what we stand to gain by being complacent and apathetic...coming to public lands near you! Thank you, everyone. Any effort at all would be greatly appreciated WoodsChick
Done. Clear Creek was one of the funnest places that I have ever rode at, sure hate to have the oportunity lost for future riders.
1613 signatures is not alot. More noise must be made to be heard. Guess I'll have to add my wife's and kids signature to the list.
Thanks, everyone! Rest assured, there is a very organized and concerted effort working behind the scenes to completely dismantle and destroy the totally flawed DEIS. There are so many things wrong wth it you guys wouldn't believe it. There is a generel feeling that it won't make any difference, as the main objective of the BLM is/has always been to get out from under a piece of property that they're scared of (asbestosis liability) as quickly as possible. They built a pay station so we had to pay to ride, totally refurbished a camp ground, then closed it off in May `08, wasted millions of our taxpayer dollars building a decontamination station that has never been used (and never will be, if they have their way) and have been systematically dozing trails and dismantling campgrounds and staging areas. All while permanent closure has supposedly not been decided yet. Yeah, right Oh, and the workers running the bulldozers, graders, backhoes and water trucks while destroying the things our green sticker funds have paid for? Not a one of them has been seen wearing so much as a dust mask. So, it's too dangerous for me to ride on for 6 hours once a month in the rain, but it's not too dangerous to stand amidst stirred up soil 8 hours a day for weeks on end?? If this land gets permanently closed in the end, the EPA/BLM is going to be called on the carpet by a very large, passionate and angry mob of Clear Creek lovers...some of which have been riding there for 40 years. I could go on and on about this crap, as these are the things that keep me awake at night. The only thing that gives me solace at the moment is that my signature on my letter is going to give me a voice when the lawsuit rains down on the heads of the BLM after they close Clear Creek without listening to the very strong wishes of the public they supposedly serve. Pay close attention to what's going on in your own neighborhoods, folks, because what works here might be coming to a riding area near you. WoodsChick
I hear ya WoodsChick. We could start a government beaurocracy rant thread but that would get outta hand and likely crash this site. edit edit edit........ I keep ranting and then deleting. I've decided I'll keep my post short and my frustration for gov't dealings within my own head.
I rode there a few times as a kid back in the early to mid 70's. AMA District 36 Ridgerunners held a few get togethers there. Those were the days. Good luck with the petition.
post this on Thumper Talk..you may get more responce as well...ill sign... save as much as we can,,keep em open, to ALL uses.
Hate to plug another forum...............but SBR (south bay riders) has a very active forum on saving CC from our overly active BLM (bureau of land mismanagement). I had been going to CC since the mid 70's and really don't like what is going on there. Like Woodschick said, its a whole lot of smoke and mirrors with the BLM, I believe they have an agenda that does'nt include dirt bikes or , for that matter, hikers, shooters, rock hounds, nature lovers and people in general. BLM/EPA/Nanny state is in high gear.
Andy, the owner of SBR is a great guy. I've talked to some top officials and they are supposed to funnel information to SBR. In addition Don Amador also posts in the California section of TT. You know that "Important Information" thread I put up in the 4st section of TT? The title was inspired by, and used with permission from, Andy. Although I will take full credit for figuring out how to get the massive amounts of information in that thread and still have it be usable. This link is worth visiting: http://www.southbayriders.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=141&
Thanks Dean, I'm not really "loyal" to either SBR or CH because they are both my favorite ! TT is a distant 2nd just because its a bit too impersonal. I've met you and I run into Andy all the time either at Metcalf or HH or somewhere. Both you guys are good folk !
Just got this Email... Dear Kelly, This Great News regarding Clear Creek just came in from Mike Wubbels of the Friends of Clear Creek. Thanks to all the organizations who have worked so hard to make this happen and to those of you who attended the meeting and sent emails Here is the News from Mike: The Best News in 23 Months Today April 6, 2010 the San Benito County Board of Supervisor made history by voting unanimously to reopen all of the closed roads in the Clear Creek Management Area. This does not mean that you can go out and ride in Clear Creek, but you can once again travel any of the county roads without the fear of being ticketed or thrown in jail. This was done over the requests of the BLM’s Hollister Field Office Manager Rick Copper who asked that the board keep the roads closed till the Record of Decision comes out. Mr. Copper was asked by the board when that was and he replied maybe as early as January 2011? We ask that all Americans who will be visiting and driving thru the Clear Creek Management Area in the near and foreseeable future to observe the rules by staying on the county roads and not go off of them. We must learn to police ourselves thru these trying times knowing that the ultimate outcome will be a full return to the type of riding we used to know at the creek. If just a few abuse this sweet victory it will be short lived and give cause for the BLM to find ways to revoke what we have fought so hard to achieve. If you see someone breaking the rules, please take a moment and educate them to what is at stake for all of the OHV community and the public if we lose this victory. I believe full heartedly that if we stand united together, that in the foreseeable future we will once again ride and enjoy all that the Creek has to offer every one of us and the family experiences it has provide for many of us throughout the years. This day will forever live in the history books as a pivotal point for the OHV community and the American Public. The impacts of today’s decisions are being watched all across this great country of ours, and the impacts of these decisions will shape the future of OHV and the way our Public Lands are managed. After all Public Lands belong to the Public and not the government agencies managing them. Remember the CONSTITUTION says that the federal government CAN NOT OWN OUR PUBLIC LANDS but can only manage them. Please pass this information on to as many people as you can, and remember that UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL. Please remember that there is still a great amount of hard work ahead for all. Enjoy this hard fought victory, but do not let up the pressure to accept anything short of full unrestricted access to the Clear Creek Management Area. Mike Wubbels Friends of Clear Creek
I just noticed your post Kelly, thanks. I've been a bit busy as of late. It seems there is some confusion regarding a protest they are trying to organize on SBR. Originally it was planned as a ride through CC on the county roads which were presumably supposed to be open. Printed paper flyers were passed out. Then someone decided on SBR to move it to the BLM Hollister Field office by starting up a new thread in the regard. I'm not sure what will happen, or if what I read on SBR was up to date & accurate.
