Dammit, I was re-jetting the CR 150 last night for colder weather and lost the needle clip for the TMXX! You'd think this would be something laying around every shop or something shops would stock... no! Called 10 shops within 100 miles and all said they's have to order one. Dammit! Can anyone suggest a place to get one... fast???
Krieg a while back I found a clip kit with a bunch of sizes in the the little compartments, that thing has saved me. I think I got it at Harbor Freight, but maybe Ace, Home D, Lowes etc may stock those. best of luck we all hate dropping stuff like that. We have loose carb parts drawers at my sponsor shop NCM.net, but heck we are here in San Diego, and it is guess what size you need. We also have direct access to southern moto dist, they stock alot of carb parts if available can be had in a day for us, add a day (if overnighted) to you. Ebay, try niche cycle, they stock lots of new style mikuni stuff. Also any decent bike salvage place should have it. I found generic clips were too fat for keihin needle slots but mikuni might work?
Thanks for all the responses. Here's what took place... On Kelly's advice I spent 2 hours running around trying to find a hardware store that stocked a good selection of E-clips. Found one about 2 miles from my house and cleaned him out of the tiny ones in 3 sizes that looked like they would work. Got home, and found one that sorta fit. Put the carb back together. Started bike. Everything is fine. Then I start putting the side panels on the tank and drop a bolt into the frame. Break out the extension magnet and sweep the skid plate to pick up the bolt... extract the magnet and... BINGO! Bolt AND clip are on the magnet! You can't make $hit like this up...
We were doing some winter riding out of a friend's cabinet making shop. It was in the teens and one guy decided to raise the needle on his ATK 250LC. He pushes it in among the woodworking tools and proceeds to loose the clip in a pile of sawdust and shavings. I had a big magnet, that I use to pick up horseshoe nails while working. Luckily I found the clip in a likely pile.... another ride saved. After that, I got a few spare clips and always keep them in my jet kit, which is always in the container in my truck!
I ordered 5 clips today. I intend to do exactly the same as you did. I will never be without a spare clip again!
I always have two stuck betweet pieces of scotch tape in my back pack. I would never want to make a needle change in the woods without a spare. Maybe I am lucky but I had no problem finding them locally. I just asked for Mikuni 2t needle clips. Many popular bikes like the YZ125, RM125, etc ran them so you would think any decent dealer would have a few spares.
Usually the dealers say they don't have them but if you drop in most any shop and talk to the mechanic he usually has some in the tool box. Bill
got to ask for them by name...."jesus clips" named after the utterance that always sounds as it slips out of your hand to be swallowed by the floor!
I love the feeling when you get in a hurry and hear the wrist pin clip hit a shop wall 20' away and ricochet into the night. That would be an aw sh*t. I now keep extra's of all that kind of stuff like needle clips and wrist pin clips and the needle bearings that fall out at the worst time from the old 6 speeds, etc.etc.etc.
I hate that time. As soon as it lets go I mentally engage my "Spidey Sonar" in the hopes I can hear which corner of the shed it might have landed in. Then it's out with the magnetic pickup tool for a little speculative fishing. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be and I never have a spare clip.
Ever go to your bench and swear that is where your wrench was left? Come to find out that it is missing? Look all over the place even ask your kids, who borrowed the wrench? This all takes place for about an hour, then you come back and it is right there in front of you on the bench under another wrench.
