So, I am cleaning up my back brake caliper and will need to replace my rear brake pads. The caliper piston is out because of pad wear. I notice that the piston is corroded around the edges and if I take a C clamp and push it back in, It will damage the caliper bore and probably the seals. Looked on line and caliper piston, seals, banjo washers, etc.... around $40. Cool, I can live with that. Well, called the dealer, Husky won't sell you the kit (been discontinued)? You gotta buy the whole caliper? The price tag is $220. B----lllsh----t , What's next? Need a shift lever and have to buy the whole engine? You got it, I took some emery paper, cleaned it the best I could and pushed it back in. Does anyone know what the same caliper is crossed over to a Brembo KTM/Gas Gas? Already checked with Hall's/Keytime. This is on a 08 WR250. If I can find the cross over then I can call the KTM dealers/Gas Gas and try and get one. Typpyt
I believe the seal is on the piston not the cylinder. that said you should be fine. It seals on the inner ID of the caliper not on the steel piston itself. Also it sould be a direct crossover with other Brembos. Clean it up and run it.
I'll check our calipers when I get home as we have a KTM and Husky. I can say for sure that they use the exact same brake pad.
I hope that the seals are on the piston. Then that helps. I called several dealers and they are not happy that you have to by a new caliper. I called Brembo and they couldn't give me an answer. I still think that there should be a cross over piston/seal kit with a KTM. KTM on their parts fische, list their piston diameters. The one I looked up said it was 26mm. I think this is going to be a money saving alternative. KTM's price with seals was $50.
I saw a thread not long ago about someone asking about seal for a rear caliper i think was here on this forum or might be @ Thumper you should try to search it might help you. Here http://www.cafehusky.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8611
That was the front that I replaced but the rear appears to be the same between makes also. The diagram isnt clear if the seals go on the piston or in the bore. The front definately has the seals in the bore. I would guess the rear is the same. I bought my parts from here but the shipping left me a little sore.http://www.partspitstop.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/parts.aspx These are the SKU# Seals 50313081200 Piston 5481308300
I will measure the piston with a micrometer today ans see if same size. I believe you are correct. Typpyt
Looks like the piston is around 32mm. The KTM rear ones are 26mm. That is not to say that they don't have one. Typpyt
Well, Think I found a piston and seal kit for the rear Brembo unit instead of buy the wholw master cylinder. It is a KTM part number Off 2000 250SX Piston is 32MM #50313083000 for $17 Sealing Rings # 50313081000 For $11 $28 is better than $219 for the whole caliper/ I will order one and try it. Typpyt
