I am going to be riding a lot of long distance, unsupported riding this season, so I decided to go through my vest and get everything cataloged and indexed to make sure I have all the tools and parts that I need on the trail. I will be riding from Cal City to Primm and back this weekend (425-475 mi round trip). The weekend after I am pre-running for the Baja 1000. T day weekend I will be out in Dove Springs. Early December I will be out in Cal City. And over New Years I will be riding to Cabo for the Husky Trip To The Tip! Thought it would be good to post a few pictures, and my complete list of the items I carry with me. This is not EVERYTHING I carry as it varies from ride to ride, but this is a pretty complete list of what I have decided is necessary over the years. 20 feet duck tape on a dowel rod J-B Weld Waterweld J-B KWIK Spare brake and clutch levers Motion Pro Metric Trail Tool T-6 Aluminum Motion Pro Tire Iron Combo (12/13mm, 22mm, 27mm, 32mm) Spare 21 in. front tube in baby powder in ziplock CO2 Cartridges and Pump Tube Patch Kit Bailing Wire Leatherman Wave Tool Zip Ties small and large Chain Master-link Master-link press tool Box-end wrenches 14mm 12mm 10mm 8mm 8mm Allen wrench 6 in. crescent wrench Screwdriver 4 in 1 Spark plug socket 6 led flashlight 2 ft. fuel hose 6 ft. syphon hose First-aid kit Energy bars Compass Spare sparkplug Spare sprocket bolt SPOT Satellite Personal Tracker Tow rope Radio Wet wipes Lighter or matches Spare AA and AAA batteries Chain oil/lube Paper maps GPS (Garmin 60CSx on bars, backup eTrex in Vest) Camel Back Blatter Bike Lock (for overnight rides) Shop Rags SCMR16 Trailtech Helmet Light (if going to be riding at night) What do you guys carry. Am I missing anything important?
Nice prep. Mine varies depending on where and who i am riding with but i usually do not carry that much stuff. Also, i like the puddy type JB weld, works much better on case holes etc and carries EZer.
Ya, I carry both. The waterweld is the putty type in a stick and works on engine, radiators, or gas tank even if wet: http://www.jbweld.net/products/water.php And the normal stuff that sets quicker is the JB Kwik: http://www.jbweld.net/products/jbkwik.php
I also forgot to add that I carry these EZ Towels: https://fpdirect-40.fpdirect.com/eztowel/order.php They work awesome for cleaning goggles or wiping your face off. Just add water! -Blake
Sure...just make sure you pack me a beer so when you break down you have something to get me to help you! -Blake
Usually I only carry a credit card, cell phone and my AAA card, but I'm going to need to do better with this Rip Trip coming up. One of my main concerns is the weight. I figure you got about 30lbs of stuff there. BTW where are the vise grips?
I'll start to fix your bike...then break it some more just to drink the beer. Pretty soon, I'll be breaking the bike while actually TRYING to fix it , and you'll have to carry me back! On second thought, you probably shouldn't carry that! -Blake
Looks like a good bit of kit... I see one thing missing though you forgot the kitchen sink...... its good to be well prepared
I carry about 15" of 3/4" heater hose with me(and a few xtra hose clamps.). It's the pink stuff that used to come on all GM cars- it's available at most auto parts stores etc., and cheap to buy. It works as a replacement for most rad hoses or, if a rad was totally smashed, I can bypass that rad. I got 2 guys out a jam with that stuff this year. A lot of people were questioning my logic when I first started carrying it, but after getting a couple guys out of a bad situation due to broken hoses, many of those guys are now carrying it in their packs also.
if you are on a 610, I think you should have a clutch cable. I'm interested to see how you carry all this stuff. My tool set is not quite as complete and it's mighty heavy and bulky. I like the moose quicksteel stuff instead of JB weld because it can't leak.
I'm on a TE450, so a clutch cable wouldn't help. Doesn't really matter much, since I just rode about 50 miles of the Baja 1000 without a clutch this last weekend. I broke the clutch perch off about 10 miles into pre-running a section. It's pretty easy to get going as long as you start the bike in neutral and are rolling down hill a bit before you drop it into 1st. Then just shift like normal! I carry all this stuff in the Ogio vest shown. It's a lot of weight on my body, but I HATE the fender packs because they fall off or tear open from all the bouncing around. I carry 2 types of JB weld, and the waterweld I carry is a putty that doesn't leak either. + I wrap the tubes of JB weld in duct tape to help protect it. -Blake
