Bought a used 2005 TE450 about 2 years ago. Horn never worked.

There's two wires w/connectors zip tied near the head tube not connected to anything. I've tried connecting them to the horn but didn't work.

    1. Can a horn go bad?
    2. Can somebody describe/show pictures of where the wires go, colors, etc...

    Thanks for the help.

Sorry about the hopeless pic, I took it a few days ago to remind me where everything went before I pulled it all apart...

The connections to the horn are by black 90 degree female blades called "flags". The wire colours (on mine) are grey and red.

Does the rest of the DC wiring (i.e. the turn signals) check out? If not you may just have a blown fuse. If you have the correct wires you can test the switch by plugging the flags onto the pilot lamp holder on the headlight - the blades on the pilot lamp are smaller so you may need three hands! If you have a multimeter then look for 12 volts (well nearly 14 actually) across the wires to the horn and continuity (mebbe a few ohms) across the horn terminals themselves.

Horns can go bad, but on the rear of the horn should be a little screw and locknut that adjusts the internal contacts. If the rest of your electrics check out then (with your third hand pressing the horn button...) loosen the locknut and wind the screw out and in. Hopefully you will find a "sweet spot" that gives a constant tone. If that fails try a few taps to the horn with a screwdriver handle or similar. Hope this helps. :)

Thanks, I'll give it a shot tomorrow.

my horn stopped working once, got sand in the switch that prevented contact. the horn itself is easy to test with wire and 12v
  5. Since it's an '05 it did not come with a horn from the factory, it could be wired up for a horn by the previous owner but who knows where he tapped into power.

This thread reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw on the back of a pickup truck: Horn Broke - Watch For Finger. :D
Sorry, that's all I got. :excuseme:

Checked out the horn on Monday.

One of the contacts is snapped off of the horn. That would explain why no wires are connected. It is a K&S model.

I checked across the wires while the bike was running. Hit switch and released. Never got 12V, only a decimal. I guess I'll be running new wire from somewhere.
