Looks good. Remember you don't always have to fill it all the way if you don't need to. Looks slim, tall but slim

    - They don't list anything on their site for Husky. Available?

    Looks nice!

Is it for a carbed or Fi model Husky?

The one in the pic does look like it's EFI.

Could you give us a bit more info on the tank:

    - volume
    - where did you find it
    - cost

    Thanks

Sorry should have said its photoshop. Im in discussions with a plastic injection moulding company atm regarding the mold setup costs for such a tank. Obviously I cannot copy Safari tanks but I am getting quotes on a very similar design with a capacity of 16ltrs

Current design needs to avoid replacing the exhaust system so the tank needs to sit high enough on the left side not to be affected by heat.

Are you considering the option to be able to use the stock shrouds, or did you have to punt that idea?

Lets see what the quote comes in at in its most basic useable form and then go from there ;) I have not yet considered EFI into the scenario.

    Looks promising. Keep us posted.

Why nobody has done this yet is beyond me.

Personally i think 4.5-5 gallons and a 3.4 version would be great. One for adventure, the other for racing.

    Shrouds are nice.

    Dual petcocks are nice.

Nothing wrong with going a bit wider, and lower.

But really the place you will make your money is with the EFI bike IMO.

Take a look at the IMS 7 gallon tank for the XR650r. A very well designed tank.

    Good on ya!

Want to use your shrouds or have more fuel capacity??? It's really a compromise. I have seen folks cut up stock shrouds and glue them on IMS tanks for the EFI bikes, but IMHO I'd much rather have a fuel tank run all the way down the length of the radiators as then the tank becomes a radiator gaurd as well as holding extra capacity. Doesn't look as nice at the svelt little stallion Italian design and graphics, but it's functional. Including the factory graphics adds extra width and a lot more costs with anchors and tooling to get it just right.

Tons of options would be wonderful, however it's becoming increasingly more difficult for the aftermarket folks to make a tank for every model year bike out there and when you only have 1000 or so EFI bikes at best in the USA so it's not a very attractive market for the aftermarket companies wishing to invest $15-20k to make a tank, they typically have to sell 100-150 tanks just to pay for the mold/tooling. Then the factory goes and changes the whole platform (which looks like that will happen for 2011) and then there's less incentive for an aftermarket company to show up late to the party.

I think it's makes better sense for the manufacturer to include such an option from the initial inception of the bike as it then falls into their R&D costs and will help facilitate the sale of the bike (TE450, G450X, Aprilia RXV, etc) KTM does a very good job there of having such products factory designed and available.

I'd be happy with any offering and not too critical of the aesthetics as it's a product of passion more then a money making venture.

I for one understand what you say BMWHusky Atlanta is true in regard to the compromise. I just don't see myself putting one of those monsters on my scooter. Unfortunatly, it will play a factor in my deciding what bike to buy next go round, although I intend to keep my 310 as a secondary. Can understand the aftermarket not getting on board, it's a big expendature for sure. What I don't agree with is if the factory doesn't want to get involved. Hopefully there's more going on behind the scenes than we're aware of. 55 miles on a tank stinks, and carrying fuel on a rack or in my backpack can be flat out dangerous if you've seen the way I ride! If the next generation Husky thumpers can't get 70-75 out of a tank or without options that doesn't make my bike look like something that should be pulling a hay wagon behind it... Well, that would be real shame. Here's hopin...

Any word on the alleged larger tank that Husky is supposed to offer for the 2010 TE250. The bike has been out for a couple of months and spring is around the corner.
