There are many coal mines shut down and could be closed for weeks. Aust exports $100 million worth of coal a day. Could be major price issues in the energy markets, let alone the local effects of so much lost revenue and jobs.

It is an area bigger than Germany and france combined. Our Queensland mates have had a schellacking. So much for global warming, its been about the coolest and wettest summer ever

We are lucky where we are but others are not so lucky . Brisbane is expected flood over 6500 properties next two days. We are on top of a hill yet I was still outside all day trying to keep the water out
we've been getting 4 inches an hour at times

This is a major issue, over 9000 homes in Brisbane (Australias 3rd largest city and capital of the State of Queensland) are being evacuated. Over 35% of the state is flooded. Picture an area bigger than Texas. 56 lives unaccounted for. The flash floods look like tidal waves. The body of water will work its way south into my state New South Wales and cause prolonged flooding and damage there as well. This is a natural event of biblical proportions. I have to say the bloody Queenslanders are showing their usual grit and determination. Don't know what it is about them, they close ranks and are very strong for each other. Good on you Guys and God Bless you all.

Hey Kelly, love the pix with the roos in the tinny (boat). I'm high and dry here in Mount Isa, but I feel for the people down south with what I have seen on TV

The rain seems to have eased finally - its been coming over the sunshine coast and going down to ipswich area
You are right Ghte - Qlders are a tough bunch . I am proud of them but there are going to be many tragic stories and its hitting very close to home
Its hard to sit around and not be able to help - cant even get down the highway
Shops are running out of food but thats all minor stuff compared to having lost loved ones or a house

I'm afraid rockdancer and the Qlder's, they are expecting more rain up till Feb so l can only do is wish good luck and stay safe from a Mexican (that's a Victorian for you foreigners :D ).. and grab a life jacket and a kayak!!

They're expecting flooding all down the Eastern seaboard for the month of Jan....lol...flooding on one side and burning on the other..you have to laugh.

To put this into perspective, the amount of area that the flood waters affect in Queensland would cover the state of Texas.

Here's a utube vid of the toowoomba flash flood.

Global warming.....explain why l'm riding on the w/e in January where it should be 35+C and hot northerly's not 24C and rain:confused:
