Someone had a thread here not too long ago desperately looking for a kickstarter for their bike. I may not be too far behind if I don't do something soon. The splines on the kick starter where it connects to the shaft are wearing. There's a fair amount of play in it. As dumb as it sounds, I'm trying to kick it lightly now (stopping before it slams into the peg).

Is there any repair I can do? I've thought of "greasing" the splines with Quick Steel and sliding it on. Quick Steel is a JB Weld type product. Thoughts on doing that? :excuseme:

Coming across a kickstarter doesn't seem easy. Help!

Call Motoxotica for or your local dealer BMW Atlanta, I'll bet you will get the part in a reasonable time frame.

You can get a longer bolt with a nut so there is more clamping force on the shaft. At some point you'll need another lever tho. Ditto the no quicksteel

The issue with these is the bolt just holds it on the splined shaft instead of pinching it on the splined shaft like a shifter lever. Once it is loose your options are limited.

Cool, thanks Dan. I was hoping there was a fix, but looks like I'll have to order a new one.

Anyone have any advice on how to prevent this in the future? Sounds like it's somewhat common.

Back in the olden days the Maicos, especially the big bores were hard on their kick starter splines. I wasn't the only one who put a couple spot welds on to help keep things in place. A little grinding was necessary at times, and I laugh about it now.
