Just drill & tap that baby, a bolt and large washer and you will be good to go. Got a 72 250WR that I got as a parts bike because that's what was wrong with it. That was over twenty years ago and it's still running strong with zero problems with the crankshaft. What do you want for the engine???? i'm interested.

Heck I dunno... it needs crank seals and this little dilemma taken care of. But it ran (smokey) just a few days ago. Shipping's gonna be a bitch...... You guys tell me what it's worth... $5000?? ha ha h...

agree...drill and tap it...it will be tough...its case hardened, i did this on a 4 speed Husky many years ago,,didnt have money at the time to replace the crank stub,.so i drilled it, and taped it....a bolt and washer worked great...
ran 3 years,, sold the bike..id bet it still the same way.
USPS shipping costs the same. to HI, as it does mainland...as does AK...just take a little longer...UPS is another story.

Shipping USPS is the same only for "Flat Rate Priority Mail"....tough to fit a motor in an envelope or small box. But I wish you were right...we get KILLED on freight over here!
We can get UPS and FED EX Ground service though...go figure.

    Bike is together...going to bed.

Get yourself some "Bad Dog Drill Bits"
    http://www.baddogtools.com/cat.php?id=2
They are expensive, but I've used them to drill through taps without a problem. Drill slow and steady and you'll get through the bolt with these bits.

to bad they dont offer machinest grade sizes....
iv hardened a carbide drill with mecury to drill a broken tap before..not something id do every day..but it works...
then you can always use a broken tap extractor...just used mine yesterday

The nice thing about the mad dog bits is that they exchange the dulled and/or broken bits for $1.00 each for life. I have returned many broken and dulled bits and never have a problem. I am very impressed with them.

I'm selling the 390CR motor...almost complete...no clutch or gears on the left side. Ran but needs a case seal...smoked a bunch. Oh and the pesky bolt problem that started this thread. P.m. me if interested.
