I am a new member, and new to the dual sport world. I am a long time street rider, and grew up with offroad 2 wheelers. I have a quad now, but really wanted to get into some 2 wheeled versatility. Long story short, I am looking to buy a 2007 TE450(sort of). The seller, is very knowledgeable and adapted three different 450 models together engine wise, and took out the electric start. My question is I dont see too many parts on ebay for Husky's, does anyone know where I can acquire the parts I need besides ebay, or a dealer? Thanks for any help in advance, I am sure I will be around a lot once I make my purchase. Thank you, Jay
Jay, I think you might want to look very carefully at the bike you are considering. It sounds like a Heinz 57 variety to me. There are plenty of straight well maintained TE 450's about for the right money that have not been cobbled together.
+1 a 2007 with multiple parts for multiple models hummmmmm i would back off too, why already a mixed bag of parts? because he beat the shit of the bike first? did not maintain it at all and had major problems with it? who knows
if it's put together with '05-'07 parts, what's the big deal? Doesn't mean it is junk, maybe they were acquired thru various sources or whatever the means...E-starters don't often get removed though, keep your eye out here or on the auction site. Otherwise the dealer is the about it.
Thanks guys. The owner is a very knowledgeable rider who just had the engine rebuilt by a authorized Husky dealer(town and country). He used what he thought was the best parts from each of three engines. He added the counterbalancers, from I think the TC, and the top end from another. I apologize I am not fluent in all that is Husky(yet, it wont take long!). I am going to look at it this morning. I will take some pics and make a new thread to see what all you guys think. For what he wants, its almost too good to pass up. He switched over to KTM's and just wants all this stuff out of his garage. Like I said I will get all the info today. I found someone in fleabay that was parting out a 450. What would someone pay for the gears, starter, and handlebar control, all in good shape? I feel like he may be trying to rip me off, he offered $450 shipped. Is there anything else I would need?
T&C is a good shop...that price isn't too bad, as long as the stuff is in good shape and complete. no rip off IMO...way better than the 800 dollar or so for new.
Are the starter parts the same on a TE310? If so, you could inquire with forum member Last Lap, as he has been parting out a 310. I don't know if he sold the starter parts, but it's worth a shot.
Thanks Andrew, I sorted it out, but thanks for the heads up. So the sale is good pending payment next week. I just had to transfer the funds over. So I am the new owner of a 07 TE450! ordered the E start this afternoon from Fuji on ebay. He put together everything I need and chased his UPS guy down to get it out today so i will have it monday. Big thanks to him. So my next question is where does one find a service manual for these bikes? Is the dealer the only place? I dont see any on ebay.
You're welcome. If you just want a copy of the manual to download, you can find it here: http://www.husqvarnaoutlet.com/repair_manuals If you're looking for a printed copy, I don't know where to find one, but you could probably have the PDF printed and bound. And, congratulations on your purchase!
Thanks Andrew cant wait for next week. Now I just need to find someplace to ride around here! I do have about 10 acres behind my house, but that will get boring really quick! Thanks so much for the link, thats perfect. Being that I dont know a whole lot about these bikes, the manual and parts book is invaluable.
Just picked her up, got my electric start from fugi today, so I have work to do this week. Thanks everyone for all the help!
If anyone knows how to get in touch with Jornum I'm trying to reach him. The TE/SMR/TC he bought was my old bike.
