Just bought my first Husky this weekend, an 09 TE 610. I am really excited to get this thing into the desert and see how it does off road. I plan on using it for extended on/off road adventure touring and I want to get a little more power and low end grunt. As a newbie to Husqvarna, forgive me if I ask some stupid questions, or questions that have already been answered elsewhere on this forum. It sounds like there are a few things that can easily uncork the power on the TE 610. From what I gather, you can add a slip-on and then bypass the oxygen sensor and fool it with a resistor to change the fuel mapping to a "race" mode. How much power can be gained and are there specific instructions on this anywhere? If the gains are not that significant, I am not sure I want to bypass the closed loop on the FI system. It seems like it might negate the advantages of having FI in the 1st place. Any thoughts? Lower Gearing? I would like some lower end grunt but I don't want to top out at 65 on the freeway either. Took it out last night and in 6th gear at 65 to 70, the bike had trouble pulling (roll-on). It worked fine if I ramped it up in 4th and 5th and easily topped out over 80. Any suggestions? What about K&N or air box mods? I just started looking yesterday, but I don't seem to find much information on the web about Husqvarna performance accessories, so can anyone point me in a specific direction? Any help would be appreciated.
i think the power improvement is very significant with the LV slip on.i would do it then see how you feel about the gearing for your intnded use.the gas mileage will go down going to full perf mode.if you will see lots of rocks consider the teflon rear chain guide.get some good handguards and you may want a reconfigured custom seat.dan
Dan, Thanks for the advice. I am planning on ordering the slip on this week. Looks like there is a "shorty" version that is a little louder than stock. I think that's the one i will order. I bought the TE used and it came with hand guards, custom seat, aluminum skid plate and the pro-moto billet rear rack already installed. I already plan on replacing the stock chain and the sprockets at some point. Trails here range from open rocky desert to high alpine mountains and I will be riding them all. The plan is to deck out the TE for long distance adventure riding with about 80/20 desert to road use planned. Really just planning to ride the highways to get from trail to trail, get gas or find a hotel and a hot shower. Do you have any experience with removing the O2 sensor?
http://www.rickramsey.net/TE610mods.htm Check out what this guy did to mod his bike. You may not do them all or any, but he's got a lot of information there. Uptite makes a kit to power up your bike. 1 714 540 2920. Skidplate too.
That is all I did on my 09 610 and the bike work well. Smooth power throughout the range. Fuel economy in the low to mid 50mpg range. Good recommendation on the chain guide.
