http://www.ridechec.com/images/wepg/2013_5_vcmc_sm.jpg At Gorman WestChec series, Qualifier non-time keeper, just show on time and Go!! Last year was fun and scenic as well. I Highly recommend it, even for first timers. Format is simple and course is mostly just flowing trails. It's the Round 7 reschedule event. http://www.ridechec.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=frontpage&Itemid=1 I'm signed MAG HWT A (50A) will be on the ZipTy, 2013 TXC310R.
With all the SoCal and central Ca Cafe Husky riders..........cmon. This is a controlled course go as fast as you wish, well marked, well managed, nearby, all day of riding, what Husky's were designed for event and its only @ 50 bucks for entry.
Hmmm I live a whole 20 minutes down the road. But I don't belong to that AMA. Can I use my Academy of Model Aeronautics card?
I am considering this event but have a few questions maybe you can answer regarding race format. What is the difference between Qualifier and Time keeper? Do you just run as fast as you can in the qualifier not having to keep track of time? I live only a half hour or so away and am considering doing this race. I haven't raced in probably 12+years, but am really enjoying my TE310 since starting up riding again last year, I think maybe I might give it a try. Thanks for any info. Craig
you have a schedule to meet, and in the case of west chec its fairly easy to maintain. you need to be at special tests before or on time, no penalties for being early and entering a SP, but you need to wait to go through at or after your regular CK pt sched time. If you are late (unlikely in this series) you go right to the front and go through.. You get to a special they count you in and you go as fast as you want/can until you get to the check out. Its super simple, really a watch is all you need to keep track of where you are along with a time sheet for your check pt times. I just bring paper a sharpie and good clear boxing tape. Shedule will be posted the eve before and of course in the AM. I just tape it onto my cross pad. You will have a fun day!! 30-35 max between gas checks Also Erek said they will have a tutoring session the PM before, to help all get set up for the timing sheet. Last ones I did they all ready had my minutes times adjusted, I just needed to write them down in my preferred format on my blank sheet. Go for it its a fun well marked trail ride, under semi closed course safe conditions.Your bike is perfect for this event. RN
Thanks for the info. I may pick your brain a little more if I decide I can make it if that is ok, unless you think I can just show and go and get it figured out. If I can just show up with a sharpie, paper and tape and some 91 octane maybe I will just do that. I will see if I can drag a few others with me too.
Are there "hidden" fees? I tried looking this event up and it said you have to join the AMA, join dist 37 and pay for the event......
Yeah, sounds kind of pricey just for one race. If I was a serious racer and regular AMA member, the entry fee would be the easy part. Plus you've gotta have support for fuel stops, breakdowns, etc. I think I'd enjoy getting some miles in on a quiet afternoon rather than a crazy race weekend. Poker runs are much more to my liking. Good luck Robert, let its know how it goes.
AMA yes, you need to be a AMA card holder its a sanctioned event, club or district thing no. Think about it, traveling racers would need to join every district the race in, nope doesnt work that way. My local zone is D38, I am not a D38 paid guy, I have no local AMA District affiliation. PS this is a Husky bucks paying event so if your bike eligible sign up for contingency before this event. So if you walk in in this, you will need to be a AMA member or sign on the spot, and pay entry, thats the way AMA sanctioned racing works. Most of my races are HS type things in N Baja Ca. in Mex you pay entry and race thats it. Racing for me is nothing more than paying to trail ride as fast I care to, challenge myself against the course, have fun, in a much safer controlled environment, and have fun, having a laid out marked course to follow and supporting the folks that work to put these things on.
Hey Rob Now you know what it is like to get these trail riders to show up at a race. I have a dual sport i like never ride why because the thought of going fast around a corner and hitting a play rider .Racing a H&H is better for me plus there is a Helicopter and a Paramedic on stand by incase I need it. All this for like 50 bucks. I would go to Gorman as it is a good event BUT I will be out in the desert getting the course ready for the best National of the year. It takes so much time to get it right and it is over so fast Then you have to take it down Stay safe I need you at the 100s National
Ajax, Gorman 100 is post H&H season. Its the rescheduled "round 7" on Oct 27th hope you can make it. 99% DIY, its an enduro, there will be ck pt fuel stops, you come in early you pick up your marked fuel and fill your tank and leave on your schedule*, AMA regs require stops within 35 miles (I think is the number now) Reason- so MX guys and EU bikes can ride easily without adding big tanks+=more entries "Plus you've gotta have support for fuel stops, breakdowns, etc." breakdowns??? yea it could happen its a ride, good prep and your designed and built for ISDE 6 days bike should last a day in ammie level riding no? Last year my Sachs shock blew just after the start of the second day, I rode the entire day on a rear spring, zero dampening, thats part of the adventure and challenge. * or you can what I did one time and come in late to the fuel stop, and be so crapped out for being late go to the front of the later minutes and continue onto the tranfer section....run out of gas and have to push my bike all the way back to the fuel zone, then have 10-15 minutes to make up......I made the final check out end of the day as my minute riders were rolling their bikes through check out. That was exciting stuff making up 15 minutes on the long last transfer section with no rear shock......
View: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yz6WHjW4yVg one of the specials from last year.....easy peazzy. (PS not me)
clean bike fresh bag of oil...one more day to prep. clean airfilter to install, check screws and bolts, bend my subframe back.....from a Sunday flying W rock endo!! lube chain with my new fave- the white stuff, Spectro zinc chain lube, stuff just hardly doesn't stick to it. And fully inspect
Entry list so far http://www.moto-tally.com/D37/Enduro/StartingGrid.aspx?EY=2013&EID=6 Instructions/rules http://www.ridechec.com/images/wepg/2013documents/2013riderinstructions.pdf route sheet--- I'm happy for this pre event route sheet, its unusual from my experience. http://www.ridechec.com/images/wepg/2013documents/2013 schedulebikes.pdf
I hate to say it....it really was not fun for me...like a desert race, no wilderness pine forest mountain section (the big highlight). Very dry and dusty, silty. hard pack and sand washes..... I swear last year for the 2 day I had fun, this year not so much. I was never loose and comfortable today, rode tight all day, part me, part conditions. 99% of riders were good and courteous in the STs. Hat's off to WestChec, they always work as hard as possible to make their events great. It was well managed and well marked, transfers were good and time allowance was easy to keep on time. Lots of Beta presence that will be at or near the podiums in at least a few classes. @ 2x 40miles and 1x30 bike worked great mostly all day.
