The Husky 300 really made me think about going back to a newer Husky but I'm really wondering how the motor delivers the power?
I have ridden a '06 250 and didn't care for it(to snappy) but owned a 02 360(with decompression head) and if not for the fact it was worn out I would have kept it... I could short shift it and power delivery was very linear with superb torque at any time. The power delivery on the GG is the same, very linear, won't yank you around unless you really grab a hand full... great bike to short shift and lug... add an auto clutch and I'm ready for an enduro season!

Anybody owned both or spent alot of time on them on both of them?

Hopefully the economy will pick up and I can pick a new/used scooter!

I completely agree with your assessments of all the bikes mentioned. I have never ridden a Husky 300 so I can't help there. I can tell you that the '06 WR250 is more aggressive than later models. I'm not sure why. I have ridden several '06 WR250's and several '07 + 250's and this pattern seems to repeat. I suspect the '06 had a different powervalve setting or ignition timing. Parts wise they are supposed to be the same :excuseme:

Based on what I have seen the tranny is actually a close ratio hence the snappy power. In '04 I bought a new te450 and it was the same way... to snappy for my taste(even after adding a Tasky's flywheel weight... great shop by the way!) so I switched to a used/worn out te250 and power was subpar for my taste and back to GG I went. Rather frustrating considering I rode Husky(80-87) and wanted to go back.

I have ridden both. The WR has more power and snap. But i love the dual personality of the husky, short shift and lug it controllably or fan the clutch and take off all hair on fire. The WR seems to be a lot less finicky in my limited experience and STONE reliable. Also can be have for MUCH cheaper. After riding both the WR300 would be my choice for sure.

BTW I liked the GG300 but the ergonomics wad me up and the bike seems a little temperamental jetting / running wise.

Compared to a 250 mx'er the Husky has no snap. Just linear power from off idle until about 3/8 throttle and then the power kicks in. And it kicks in hard.

Possibly the fastest top end bike I've ridden. Never stops pulling or making power.
Most definitely a split personality motor.

Never ridden a GG, but ridden quite a few KTM 300's and they have nothing on the WR in the power dept.

I have ridden a 360, rode Walts (on this site) at Moab for a long day. Was great, loved it. Similar in power to the WR300 but the 300 has slightly less bottom and the 360 has a lot less top. The 300 can be short shifted and lugged all day and feel like the 360 OR you can get into the top and sing like a 250. Thats what i like about it, like two motors in one. I have to admit i have not found any of the WR's to be to snappy. I have owned several and and a sweet running 94 WXC250 right now. I had a YZ250 a while back and that can be a handful often times. The WR has a lot more flywheel than any Japanese MXer.

Me having my way with Walts 360 at Moab...

I was temped to try and buy that bike from him after than day. Other than super soft suspension I loved it.

When I was refering to the 250 I was talking about the WR250 Husky - I'll pass on riding a jap bike in the trees!

If the delivery is the like the 360(obviously 60cc's make difference)... I've got to ride one!! What was the first year for the 300?

Thanks to all who gave me input!

I have a 07 WR 250 and a 10 GG 300. The GG is new, so I have limited time on it. My WR has a Rekluse in it and the GG does not YET.

Initial impressions are the WR is softer through the midrange and produces a nice top end pull on top. I've gotten plenty holeshots and very few people can pass in the open, when I'm on the Husky. It's very easy to ride a gear high, keep it off the main and lug my way through the woods.

The GG 300 is stronger on the bottom and through the midrange. I don't have the jetting sorted yet, but the top end pull is strong too. My guess is the GG would win a drag race, because it would be stronger out of the hole, if you can hook up. Top end pull might be the similar with both bikes? I'm sure overall top speed goes to the GG, because of the 6 speed.

My guess is the GG will make a great trail/fun bike when sorted. I'm keeping my Husky as my race bike, because with it's softer power down low, it's just easier to ride when you're tired. There is a big difference between trailriding and goofing around vs trying to race as fast as you can go for 2+ hours.

I'm aware of the tranny, that is the main reason I put the WR360 engine into my '07 WR250 chassis. The 360 is also what prevents me from buying a 300.

What I was referring to is that you should try an '07 or newer WR250 and don't base all of your experience towards them from the ride you had on the '06 WR250. I have 2 buddies with '06 WR250's and I know of at least 6 riders on '07 and up. Everyone that has ridden an '06 WR250 compared to '07+, claims the '06 hits much harder.

The Husky isn't as smooth as a Gas Gas though. I had an '04 EC 300 and I have ridden a 2010 EC300 Gasser. I actually prefer the Husky engine I found the Gas Gas a little too linear.

exactly my feelings as well. Also ridden back to back my buddies 07 WR250 with a PWK and C2 pipe is a good bit quicker than my other buddies 08 GG300 with a gob of work. The GG has more flywheel effect.

I have ridden both, & own a 2010 WR300.I came off a 2002 WR360. I would say the WR300 is most aggressive of the Gasser & the WR360. The 360 was a tractor every were & with a good smooth top end. The gasser was a little to linear for my liking. The Wr300 leaves the gasser for dead in all departments IMO. The only thing I am going to do to the husky is, I will change the gearing to pick up some more bottom to mid & maybe a pipe down the track. It can be a handful towards the end of the day if you have been on a long exhausting ride

snappy? husky? i think they're pretty mellow, but i've also raced mx bikes (250sx, kx250) in the woods.

i haven't ridden a gasgas300, but i have ridden a ktm300 and a husky 250. it seems to me the wr300 is more linear by far than the 250, and less abrupt off idle than the ktm 300's. I find the wr to be a very easy bike to ride, no surprises.

the WR's are snappy back to back with a GG. The GG has quite a bit of flywheel. i would prefer them with less.

THAT would be a FUN bike! I really loved my 360!
Thanks for the feedback regarding the older Husky 250's, that was the reason I didn't like the GG250...

CROC... You said it all regarding the 360 - Like a tractor! Thanks for the input!

On the moto bikes in the woods... If I were going to ride the A class, it would be a no brainer BUT those days are gone! I just want a nice torquey low end I can short shift... kind of like a couch on 2 wheels... LOL!!:D

Sounds like I need to go ride a 300.

I've owned an '09 WR 300 and have ridden an '07 GG and '08 & '09 KTM 300's. The Husky 300 will rip the face off both the GG and the KTM in overall power. It will NOT stop making power. It was WAAAAY too much bike for this old fart has been. The KTM is tame by comparison. BLAH would be my best word to describe it. Not bad, Not good. Blah. The GG was the best of them all. The motor didn't constantly feel like it would launch me into a tree if I blinked. The handling was stellar. The overall "feel" of the bike was by far the best I've ever encountered in a 2 stroke. I felt 100% at home on the GG. I felt great on my Husky 300 but was scared that I'd kill myself because of the awesome power and the limititations of my skill combined with the dated handling. The KTM... well...blah.
