Build time for this old phart.

    Im 58 years young
(still riding and racing and have my own 3,900 foot long MX track on my property)

Want to build out a Senior Vet MX bike.
    Requirements?
Good mx suspension that stays high up in the stroke
Smooth power with a decent hit to race but I dont need a pro motor (Im 58 for goodness sakes)
I grew up on 500cc machines for the past 40 years of riding racing so I ride and race in the low to mid power range.
I run a built 1995 CR500 and I had Eric Gorr work the motor for SMOOTH + Torque+ SMOOOOTHER+More Torque. it still waters my eyes on the main jet!

I have a built 2015 TE300 (full race tech suspension front and rear - guts of the 4CS are in a landfill somewhere - bipolar suspension garbage)
I SIMPLY love the 300 motor - if you told me I could only have one bike, it would be the TE.
I run the TE on the track but its just too smooth not enough hit - wanting more snap and pull and eye watering. I can dial a LOT of suspension complaints out with the clickers but not if I start pushing it. The Race Tech stuff is valved for single track and its amazing and for smooth vintage tracks it does fine.

So....seeking the 'volumes' of knowledge and been there done that from this Husky crew and what your advice/direction/considerations would be:

Options as I see it (any more)
    • Build out the TE to make it more race-like (RK-Tek head and SX ignition) = cheapest but doesn't solve suspension - Head would stay on all the time and swap the ignition when I want to moto vs single.
    • 2018 TC250 and smooth things out with Jetting and exhaust to tame the beast a bit if need be
    • 2018 TC250 and get the KTM parts 300 kit if the 300 isn't enough? === (I have read the 300 SXS motor is a monster though)
    • TX300 and work the suspension as needed - maybe toss a 19" rear on it. From what I have read the TX motor/power etc is between the TC and TE (correct??) Yes I would LOVE to have a E start on my MX bike, why? cause I can. :)
Good deals on the TC250 left overs (2018) right now -
Fun part at times is the research !!
    TIA !!!

for grins I did a part number cross reference between the TX and the TE 300 models (2017)
    • Head - same
    • Cylinder - Same
    • Ignition module - Same
    • Pipe - Same
    • Silencer - Different
I would have thought other parts would be different in order to modify the power.....Interesting to say the least.

I am 55 and love my '18 TC250. Only race vintage Huskys and had a '12 RMZ450 but I just love the sound/smell of the smokers. They also feel about 30lbs lighter than the RMZ. Definitely make you work harder than a 4t but the fun factor is worth the effort to me. I only ride moto, you'll love the TC. You can tame it or wick it out as much as you want. Great suspension stock. I weigh 230 so I did put a heavier rear spring on it. I did add an FMF fatty and VForce only because I got a great deal on it. Put FMF 2.1 silencer just cause so cool looking :-) I will say with the exhaust/reed combo it does seem to pull harder and with the 49t on rear longer. Also put a Kreft PowerDial on so can play with PV without tools. Guy that rides with us has an '17 TXC300 w/estart and loves it.

TC250 you want 2 stroke moto
FC250 you want 4 stroke small bike moto
FC450 you want 4 stroke scary fasy moto
    The bikes are already built.
    Same goes for KTM
    Same goes for Yamaha etc.

If you want estart just go with the TX300. I'm sure finding someone that would want to trade a tank and rear wheel from a tc250 should be easy if you throw it out there at enough sites

Well this one followed me home.

Now time to take it to the frame, grease, torque etc and add my 'set-up' items (bars - pegs etc)

Got a killer deal, and after I get some hours on the new seat (tall) I will consider the full up Husky 300 kit.

Every on line review says - they ran their tried and true 40:1 (or pick a mix) and just couldn't get it to jet right and run clean - then they 'read the manual' and went to 60:1 and whoa the Husky Engineers knew what they were doing!

Im gonna try the settings in the manual for where I am and 60:1 (sea level, 40-60 degrees) and compare / contrast with MXA test and other test sites and here on CH - and report back.

On my TE300 - did some minor changes and the 'huge' clean everything up to perfection was the 2008 RM250 needle. WOW perfection!

check/verify your float height too. JD Jetting recommended setting seem to be spot on with these new C/B shaft engines, I was always 1 clip leaner on my 2014 TE300.

I just wish Husky would give the "X" treatment to all the 2 strokes! I think my next race bike could be a TC250 with 18" rear, Gnarly pipe and "loop 2" tech gear ratio. I like racing the sub 250 class and it seems the best way to make it happen.
