My 1985 250XC has the proper fork clamp studs & nuts in the R/H leg & 1/4' allen bolts in the L/H leg? (that ain't right?)
When I look up the OEM part, they look like a coarse thread and fine thread stud, yet nobody describes them? Are they SAE & metric? That way I know my fork legs are not stripped & I'll order from HVA unless someone knows another source. Thanks!

Checking the parts book, it calls out quantity (8) studs and (8) M6 nuts. If you do want to install the OEM studs, you could use metric HeliCoil inserts to correct the threaded holes. Measure the threads in your RH leg - the are probably M6x1, but check to make sure.

    Stud part number is # 15 12 371-01

Thanks for the reply Vinskord. I'm aware of the p/n & application, but a pic of the p/n clearly shows 2 different thread pitches. This is what made me think the PO used 1/4" Allen screws? Fork leg casting does not look boogered up & I can't think why the PO drilled & tapped 4 holes when he probably just might have stripped only one?

I could just remove a good one from the r/h side & check? I was just hoping someone might have come across this already? Thanks.

Now seeing a pic of the stud, I think you may be right. Before removing one, a quick email to HVA may solve the mystery.

Still learning new things about these bikes everyday!

The threads in the fork leg are 1/4"× 20. The exposed end of the stud is 6mm x 1.0. Hope this helps.

    ** CONFIRMED **

The fork leg axle clamps studs are indeed metric & SAE. (this is why I had 1/4 allen screws in the L/H leg) I ordered from HVA specialty along with a few other bits.
    Picture for reference purposes.
