250-500cc Husky VS Big 4 Engine Longevity

I am in the market for a dedicated MX bike. I have initally considered the Husky CR/WR 125 and the WR250/300's. The local dealer has an 09 WR300 for $5500 due to husky hero rebates. I have expanded my search to used bikes (missed a $1000 2002 CR125 in AZ by a day) and the big 4. A local Suzuki dealer has a leftover 2007 RM250 for $3750 OTD. The Suzuki seems to be trouble free from what I can find but most of the used ones for sale have had the cylinder chromed. I have never seen a used Husky or KTM that has had this done. The big 4 seem to get rebuilt every year where the husky/KTM's just keep going. Not looking for a "which bike is better" arguement, it is just that the leftover 2007 is such a great deal.

Is there that much of a difference in the makeup of a typical japanese engine vs the european models, or is it a difference in riding/maintenance habits?

good question. I also have a 2007 kx250. It has only 210 hrs on it. So far it has been just as reliable as my ktm's. I did a top-end after 120 hrs (i use it mostly for desert racing and enduro) and it looked good at that point.

I think ktm and husky may be more often purchased by grownups who change air-filters and stuff, and I think they may also be more often used for offroad and trailriding vs pure mx.

at 3750, i would buy the rm250, then i'd buy the wr300 too. That's 2 complete bikes for the price of 1 modern overpriced 4stroke. Added together, they probably weigh the same as the 4-stroke too, lol.

Too late. Someone bought the bike yesterday. I think I am going to stick with Husky. I am waiting for another dealer to accept an offer on a consignment CR125. I would love to find a leftover CR125 but have not been able to locate one yet.

P.S. The Goodyear Ridenow dealer has a leftover 2008 RMZ 250 for $3499 (including freight and setup).

Yes.you found them. Terry at Fox. that 07 250 is super clean. Guy who owned it is scared of it...hence it selling.....brand new FMF pipe on it too. Call Terry and tell him your a cafe husky person also

Iv got a 108hrs on the stock piston i think, good oil, green laning, odd track, just starting to get a little piston slap, nowt to worry about will change in the very near future with a husky piston, you can go cheaper, but husqy have put a lot of thought and time in to there design's ............ so would be rude not too
