just bought a new 150 wr and it came with a headlight and wiring harness in a box when I tried to install at home the headlight bulb burnt out within a couple of rev's. Then I took the bike into the dealer to have them install the wiring harness/resistor? and they could not figure it out so got a new bulb and tried it again and again within a couple of revs blew again. What am I doing wrong? Thanks Jesse
Did you install the wiring harness and did it come with a voltage regultor ? Make sure all your grounds are making good contact, and that the voltage regulator mounting bolt if it has one is making good contact to ground. I have found that the bolts that hold the coil on the frame are a good place to pick up a ground if needed, sometimes you have to grind the frame paint off the bike at the point of contact. If the wiring harness didn't come with a voltage regulator then I would say you will have to install one to keep the bulbs from blowing out.
Theres a Wr250 /300 post on wiring the Wr series wich all the 10/and 2011 & Wr150 were the same.I that post I put in a wire diagram to copy. The regultor has to be plugged in but also the resistor has to be in series properly or your dash will light up like Mecury Cougar tail light the rest of its life.Let me know if you cant find it and if not running the dash all you need is the regulator.
I installed the wiring harness that came with from factory. It did come with a diode? It is a yellow wire with diode that splices into three connection points 1. for the wire coming out of the stator.2 then plugs into the main wiring harness for the lights.3 through the diode that needs to be hooked up to ground. I work at a auto shop and my mechanics told me to check the voltage coming out of the stator and would probably have to install a voltage regulator. Does the wr150 that comes with a headlight/taillight not already have a voltage regulator? Thanks Jesse
WE have them ,if in a hurry any snowmobile dealer has access to 12v regulators from $20/$30 any 12/14volt ac reulator works ,some 1 wire that bolt and ground and others have 2 wires one Neg that bolts to framei_ one +.billf
