I have bought a Husqvarna 610 2004 model, left side kick non e start
After starting problems we got it started but it smoked heavily, more than my 2 stroke, and this is a four stroke so expect it not to smoke as much as it did.
I am thinking worn or broken piston rings or excessive wear on the cylinder bore.
Started to tare it apart but have problems with the timing marks. Timing mark on camshaft gear is no problem, but i am trying to locate it on the crankshaft side as well.
I also have problem finding the chain lock if there is any ?
The picture shows the engine as it is today.
I have removed the center bolt on the gear in front of the clutch. it has no mark for TDC/timing IMG_9458[1].JPG .
The gear does not come easily off so i am wondering if i have to pull the clutch out first.
I think the marks are on the sprocket holding the chain.
    Anybody done this before ?

The timing marks are on the flywheel on the other side of the engine.

A couple of possibilities for smoking are a broken oil control reed or bad valve stem seals. The oil control reed is behind the clutch by the way.

There are no timing marks on the flywheel on this bike.
In fact there are no timing marks in the crankshaft end.
The timing is done with the crank in TDC (top dead centre) and the camshaft lobes pointing down and the dot on the camshaft gear in line with the top of the cylinder head.
This is my summary after what people have told me.
So i used a three legged puller to take off the gear in front of the clutch assembly which i also removed.

I have also removed the chain tensioner so the chain is now a little bit slacker. I can not remove the chain from below so i have to find a way to get it off the camshaft gear.

Is there a mark in the case around the flywheel? It will either be at 12 o’clock or 3 o’clock depending on the year. The marks are sometimes just painted and I would scribe them on both places.

You have to take the screws out of the camshaft and pull it out of the gear, then you can remove the chain.

Took the screws off the camshaft but there is not enough slack to take the chain off the gear, even with the cam removed.
It is a water tube that has to be removed it runs inbetween the chain and is stopping the chain and gear form going further down
    Picture shows the tube.

I have tried to make a puller that i insert in the tube and try to pull it out, but it wont move.
i have a feeling that this has been dismantled before and when they put it together they have used som sort of sealer and now it is stucked.

I try to pull it out with needle nose pliers from the outside or reach down with channel locks inside the cylinder and try that.
