It's definitely pricey, but very cool. I know it's not a competition bike, but still cheaper than a SMR630R Eddy Seel Replica was, 10 years ago and so much more practical! I will own this bike, at some point!:oldman:

Not much more then a FE501 S. It could be tempting. Very tempting.

Anytime you ride a dedicated race bike with race rubber on public roads like what it was intended for.. you risk your license or life. Got to keep the bikes in their intended environment or suffer the consequences.

An orange 690 over here is the better portion of $17k bone stock. Australia tax.

I'd rather have SM wheels on a 501s than buy the 701. 501 is lighter and much faster than the 701, with greater accessory availability.

I want this in Enduro form - purdy! Hope they would keep all the hard points for KTM accessories to be able to camp off it for a few days.

The size of that exhaust can turns me off I'd rather see two smaller cans on both sides.
A endure model would be nice. But I had a blast on my 99 husqvarna te610e dual sport.
The starter was lagging, very slow but the new 610 engine was a bear in power. I think in my rural area either a dual sport or motards would be a hit. On the other hand a dual sport up in the green mountain national forest on the access roads would be awesome.
Every so often I have 4 or 6 motards flying buy.

I rode my '99 husqvarna TE 610e dual sport to work. It was fun till I arrived there. I wanted to keep going.

Does the weight matter for a SM on the street? High winds can be a factor with a light bike on the highway or open rode. You guys are the gurus. I've been close to a road pizza a few times but I won't go there.

Love the SM on the street , access roads , dirt roads. yea , pretty much any road....

I can see a 701 coming my way . always bouncing of the rev limiter on the 610. Need

Lighter...sure, but faster? Off the line I bet it's no contest and the 501 would get the holeshot but I would think maybe the 701 would be able to pull a taller cruise gear on the highway for better top speed. I think you and Ty need to do a shootout and tell us for sure!

I had a KTM factory 640SM that had a lot of hop-ups on it. Anything over 110 was very scary due to the light weight. 400# is the sweet spot unless you want to run on a go-cart track. You have to make a choice. Go fast or Go Quick..

Mate has 50,000km on his 690SMC (+ Cams) without a rebuild, perfect for an everyday road motard, 501 might be more fun, but for day to day riding the 690/701 donk wins out.
