Well, I've got my dad on it. I've owned an 04 and 08 cr 125. We're going to look at an 09 wr125 tommorow for him.

I know the wr will suit him well as far as suspension goes. But Power wise are the wr's that far off from the cr's ?

I know a lot of guys prefer the cr ignition, for technical trails is the old man "55" at home with a wr 125?

Should be a great bike for him.

My dad loved Shane's 09 WR125, he put about 50 miles on it one day in varied terrain from fast desert to technical rocky trails. He was in his mid 50's at the time and still talks about that day.

I'm a mid 50's rider and absolutely love my '08 CR167. Yes, it's bored and stroked but I bought it this way.
If I were him, I would put Wally Bean's 165 kit on it and he will be very happy with it anywhere he rides it.
I need both shoulders replaced and this bike has given me a little more time racing before I have to to go under the knife.
    It's that easy to ride.
We also ride 2 - '07 WR144's and those work great as well. Don't walk, RUN out to get one for him! LOL

I am 58 and my 06 WR125 is my favorite woods bike. I keep saying I will do the wally 165, but am waiting till I
rebuild engine. Problem is the stupid thing won't wear out. Lots of hours on this bike and so far bullet proof.

At 50, I came from an 02 husky cr250. My 09 wr144 is so easy to ride. Might have even made me a faster/ better rider. I also ride an 08 cr125. There is a huge hit difference but the wr is all I need.

I have a 2009 WR125 and will turn 60 early next year. I can ride it and have more remaining energy at the end of the ride when compared to my WR250 and WR250F. My woods-setup RM250 comes closest to saving my energy to my 125 due to a massive flywheel, trials tire, and autoclutch.

My 125 was frustrating as with all this RM125 needle/jetting and RB-Designs mods did not take the mid-rpm bog away. A Lectron carb helped, but recently I decided to sent it off for a WB165 kit (coming from Motosport any day now).

The WR does have a different ignition and heavier flywheel than the CR, which can be something beneficial to your father.

One more husky in the stable. He really likes it. Seems very well suited to him.

I've also got a wb 165 kit on its way for my own bike. Can't wait to try it.

One thing with the new wr is it sputters at about 5500 rpm and will not climb past that. Ive checked compression gave it a new plug. Cleaned/adjusted the powervalve. Will check the reeds and clean the carb (maybe reposition the needle as it runs a bit rich)

    Edit: all good now,

You may be waiting a long time for it to wear out.

I'm 53 and I'm on a WR 150 and I can't think of a better bike for me to ride. I have a KTM EXC 250F that is an excellent woods bike. But my Husky has me riding at a faster pace and is hands down a better woods bike for me.

53 here too. Just got back from my first trail ride on my basically stock '06 WR125. Wow. I love it. Mine needs some jetting and suspension work, but this is a fun bike!
