    I am looking for a working coil for my 1971 400 (Frame MI). I know that some models used the same parts. What I am looking for is;

    > a cross reference showing which models used the same coil as my 1971 400
    > If Femsa stamped their Part Number on the coil (mine has Numbers just not sure if they are the Femsa part #)
    > Possible sources

I had this in the bultaco ignition link but realized maybe it won't get read because of the title

OSSA, Bultaco, Husky, Penton, Wassel, Montesa, Hercules, all shared the Femsa,s
    all will interchange...
best bet is to upgrade to a motoplat, or new PVL...

Ok you will laugh at me but I think I remember using a car coil on my buddies 1970 400. I was 15 then. We extended the swingarm, scared up some gas girlings and ported the hell out of it. We milled the head but then he couldn't kick it so we drilled a relief port I think back into the intake to bleed of some compression during kicking. Man that thing was a tractor. Sorry to ramble but you might try it at least as a short term solution. If I am full of it someone correct me.

a standard points type coil of any Jap bike made in the same time frame will work..
but....im for doing it right, with the right tools, right parts,,and youll not have to do it twice.
heres a funny coil story, and a couple dumb teenagers..
i was 17...and the gear head for out bunch...my 16 year old best friend had a 63 Chevy 6 cyl pickup, that would miss and sputter when you started to take off from a stop.
    so...
i cleaned the plugs, checked the points, carb,..all the stuff your supposed to do...and that ol truck still did the same darn thing...
    so,,,we removed the hood.
i climb on the fender, sitting on the edge of the wheel well, and watch whats going on while he drives down the street...hows that for a visual...couple of redneck kids in a faded out white pickup,. with the hood off, one of them with hair down past his ass, on the cowl.
strange the motorcycle cop that spotted us didnt seem to think it was that funny..
he sent us off with a warning, and a couple dumbass comments..lol..
i did find a loose power wire to the coil...fixed it...and the truck ran like a champ...
sometimes im suprised i survived long enough to make it passed my 40,s.

    GREAT comments!.. brings me back..
    anyway...Here's my mechanical abilities profile..

    > lets see if a 7mm is too small let me try the 6 mm...
    > lets put this pipe on the end of that ratchet & snug that baby up!
    > I cut it 2 times & it's still too short

Believe me those are not that far off!
The guy who is actually doing the work (I am just assembling) suggested staying original & not changing to a pvl set up.
I'm in agreeement w/Huskychuck..(please see my post under Kill Button)

I am in contact w/another member here who may have one.
If that falls thru, I just need a list of compatable Bikes that the Femsa Ignition coil was used on... (I know from my Bulltaco the coil had spade connectors ON the coil, my Husky Femsa coil just has two leeds from it, one to the plug & the other has a 'bullet connector that plugs in 'somewhere", sorry not to that stage of reassemly yet.
    I have found a few used femsa coils for the following;
    75 250 WR
    72 450 WR
    79 390 WR

Now my question, which one will work. anyone have a cross reference?

I'm not so sure (These are all Femsa coils & Husky pn's)

The Husqvarna part number for the ignition coil on my bike (frame MI) is 1614680-01

This same part number is listed for the 1975 250 cross country (Frame MK)

I know the 1972 450 WR (Frame MJ) lists its Husqvarna Ignition coil as part number 1614670-01

I dont have anything yet, just researching.

But is there a difference using the 450 coil?
