Lets face it, you don't walk into your local John Deere dealership, to buy a tractor, and have the salesman tell you that you can't get a mower, loader, rototiller, snowblower and etc...... for it, right? He says,"you have to wait till the attachments/ suppliers come out with them in a year or two down the road"? You'd probably go to your local Kubota dealer and buy one of theirs, correct? Why, cause they have everything? You might not need the snowblower, if you live in Las Vegas, though!

So in a dream world, this is what I'd like to see Husqvarna do:

Basically, your new bike is sitting in a crate, back in the shop. It has no forks, wheels, tires, sprockets, plastics, tank seat, handlebars and etc..... on it. Why pay for stuff you won't use, correct?

All the dealer has on display, are totally blinged out Huskys.

The salesman comes up to you and asks you if your ready to build your bike?

    Absolutely!

You should be able to go over to several displays/sections in order to build your own personalized bike, for your preferences?

1st, you pick out your suspension. Ohlins, Marzocchi, Showa, along with proper springs.

2nd, you pick out your handlebars/levers/throttle/grips, etc''''. Height, Width, Bend, Etc.......

3rd, you pick out your rims, hubs, tires, brake rotors, chain and sprockets size and etc.......

4th, you pick out your fuel tank size/color.

5th, you pick out your seat. Stepped, lowered, seat cover/color, etc......

6th, you pick out your foot pegs and your shifter/brake lever. Height, width, length and cleats

7th, You pick out your plastics and graphics.

8th, you pick out any upgraded engine packages/bling stuff. Pipes, big bore kits, programmers, covers, etc......

9th, You pick out your bike armour. Radiator braces, skid plates, bark busters, etc.........

10th, Now you go to a gear section to pick out your Husqvarna boots, goggles, jersies, pants, back packs, riding jackets, t-shirts and the list goes on.

In other words, all this stuff is in stock and your bike is ready for pick up in a week.

It would need a knowledgable staff/ good point of sale displays.

I think you'd send all the other companies scrambling!

11th, "and now sir, your bill....CHACHING!$$$$$, hey, we gotta pay for all this floorspace and inventory somehow, right?"

    :censored:

Yeh- Hoosk is a tad behind in the "marketing and chochkee's" thingy, but, they're getting better. Big wheels turn slowly. And if it means I can still get a left over crotch-rocket for dirt cheap I'll deal with the other stuff on my own in the meantime. And most dealer's I know here will customise yer scoot anyway ya like before ya pick it up!

All that fluff costs big bucks to front. Personally, I just want the basic bike as cheap as I can get it. But that's just me.

    Just my .02 & YMMV!!!

I could see Husky having a "pick your options" dealer order system but most dealerships probably couldn't afford to do it or the bike cost would be over the top. I think TM will let you build it your way to a point. They come well blinged out stock and the price is higher for it. My problems with ordering something is I like to see it first and I can't wait for the ship to come in LOL. It is nice to dream and if your dream comes true......I won't complain one bit!

Yeh- my Husky's have pretty top notch stuff on them already from the factory. Wavy rotors, Excell Rims, Arrow Ti pipes and two mufflers, Tomaselli bar, Magura controls, cool stuff and it's cheap to keep!

But if ya just gotta have a boutique dealer then...so be it, dream on man I'm hip!

Doesn't really cost that much extra because your not paying for things your gonna shelve on a bike, then turn around and repurchase it aftermarket. In other words, right now you are paying for a 50 tooth rear sprocket that comes with the bike. Wouldn't it be nice if they would bolt the 52 on from the get go? Or your not buying the stock pipe when you can bolt the one you want on? It won't say FMF or Pro circuit on them but that is who makes them for Husky?

I am not sure what horspower or weight of tractor you are envisioning. Both Kubota and Deere have build your own features on their websites. What is kind of scarry is when you go to the salesman and they start talking (for instance on a tractor that doesn't normally have draft on the three point hitch or come with a creeper gear) about an hourly rate for installing the option which is not put in at the assembly point. Let's face it most any dealership be it powersports automotive or heavy equipment has an hourly rate which is more than it costs at the factory or state side assembly point. Then you get into service managers who think it is their job (perhaps it is) to break any work they do into pieces so that the hours charged is maxamized.

I hear you dartyppyt, the 2011 TM I bought has almost everything I may have changed if I had the option and for what I paid it's not a lot more than any other top quality bike. I also agree it's cheaper to get the parts you want first than shelve stock pieces and buy replacement parts you like/want. Getting exactly what you want would be nice but I'm not sure most dealers could pull it off. If your dream comes true I want a 2012 Husky 200, with Ohlins TTX, e-start, FMF exhaust, Rekluse auto clutch, black rims, and the seat height lowerd 1.5"s.

It's a lovely idea but would be financially crippling and extremely difficult to manage. And you could forget the bike being street legal because it would be impossible to homologate all the variations.

The best option is to talk to your dealer about trading in the bits you don't want against the cost of the bits you want to change to...

Lets see back in 1980 i walked into Horsepower Factory in Oceanside Calif and ordered a C&J XR 500
4 stroke Fox Shocks and all the good stuff spent over 5 thousand and i supplyed the motor.
now that company closed up.Then in 1984 went to ATK in Orange Country Calif orderd a 560 4 stroke
builted to order spent over 6 thousand .Now that shop is closed up too.Last few years have raced
Husky 125 2 strokes did not feel you could make it better then as delivered from the factory plus the
bikes were cheaper then the custom bikes of 30 years ago.Just picked up a Husky 300 even with CR electronics
and a Ohlin TTX shock i am way cheaper then a new KTM so i have no problem taking the bike as delivered and changing a few things to fit my needs.I beleive if we ask for to much Husky could never make everyone happy so take the basic bike which is cheaper then any other brand out there and custom build it yourself. When you are done it will still be a bargin and work better then most other bikes
Looks like Husky is on the correct path and the future looks great. Most super custom bike shops these days have closed up

Agree little guys can't do it but big players can. We do this all day long and it really pays off. People want personalization.

Damn good idea!!! I think they could float out a few "build your own's" as an experiment and see if it flys, then maybe have the production models, or a "build your own option"...... could be done if they tried.....

Yes forget the electric start (adds weight) and dude it is a 2-stroke! But a Husky 200 WOW!!! I would be the happiest guy on the planet!!! Yea Husky LOWER the seat height!! I know I'm short 5'7", but come on the thing is tall and I'm sure they have lost some sales because of it.
