Going to pick up my 630 from Zip Ty on Monday and I am excited! Cam chain was making a little noise and t was time for a valve check so I went crazy and took it to ZT for the full engine treatment along with grease on all linkage and steering bearings. I'm in the area but no trailer so the guys are fixing me up with a new bumper carrier so I can haul home with my Jeep. The carrier will be handy on my pickup when the camper is loaded too. I'm anxious to see how she runs now and the bike should be good to go for a long time now. Had around 9K miles when I took it in. John sez it runs great! Idaho in July!
Good stuff. Did they say the cam chain was worn much? I have over 25000 km on mine and no noise but was thinking of the big 25k service and recommended replacement.
Don't know n the chain until I talk to Ty. I just suspect the cam chain at this point. They did their super crank oiling mod for me and maybe more. As for Idaho, riding six days with a small group and then a week or two after, just wandering. Magruder, Lolo Motorway and more. Fantastic riding there!
I think John said that they replaced the rod bearing because they were in the motor. Not sure if it was bad or not.
be interesting to see if your RAD cush fits up ok or needs some work like mine did. whats involved in "full engine treatment" ?
1. The hub was too wide so the rubbers in the hub where cut in the centre so they sat down each side of the divider into the hub better, allowing the sprocket carrier to fully seat into the hub. 2. The sprocket carrier was slightly machined and shorter bolts used as once seated correctly into the hub the end of the sprocket bolts where making contact with the cush where it holds the spokes. the work was done by my wheel builder and I have since done about 1500k with no issues. The carrier and cush do sit very close but there is just enough clearence to let it function. I also remember the wheel builder saying he also took 1mm off 1 of the spacers.
If you want to know how Ty Davis treats your bike, take a look at how he takes care of your used parts. Clean and seal wrapped. These are just a few of the parts.
Bolted up sprocket and brake disc to my Woodys cush hub wheel and found no interference with sprocket bolts, although if the rubber inserts wear a lot there may be some contact with the hub because the bolts project just past the hub face. We'll see. I did a preliminary measurement of the existing wheel, on the bike, and the new hub measures the same as close as I can tell. When I get the old wheel off I will know for sure if the new one fits.
'I'm ashamed to say I haven't had time to fit it yet, or even ride the bike! I decided to go ahead and shorten the sprocket bolts by three threads so there will never be any interference between carrier and hub. Since I need the bike to ride on Wednesday I will be getting on with it very soon. I'll get some pics as the work progresses.
I fitted my cush hub yesterday, and cutting the web out off the rubber cushions was the key, as Stujam noted. While neither the sprocket bolts nor the bolts make contact with the hub, it is close and I will trim the bolts. I may also file a bit off the nut faces too, but not much. If the manufacturer would take 1mm off the hub spoke lugs as Stujam had done it would be perfect. I didn't want to do any machining as it would mess up the anodizing. A little messing around and it will work fine. Now I have a perfectly good second wheel with disk, Kush Sprocket and mounted D606. Haven't decided whether to keep it or sell it, but I don't really need a second wheel for this bike. Think I'll let it hang around until I finish my next long trip, in July.
