I ordered the key today from Husky, and the parts folks had to fill out a special form and email it to Husky Italy. The wanted Vin and Plate number. I guess they have to verify ownership besides vin number. It will be interesting to see how long it takes and what the process is to get it working. Dealer seems to think it will work when it shows up, as the price is allegedly $85 for the key. They have not done a key programming, I will be their first replacement key endeavor. I was wondering has anybody has ID'd the transponder technology in the key for the TR 650?
The error on the dash when you have any immobiliser issue related is EWS, which is German initials for Elektronische Wegfahr Sperre which just means "electronic immobiliser lock". This is exactly the same as the errors you get with any immobiliser issue on the BMW range, so it's very very likely that the technology used is identical to whatever BMW use in their own bikes. Here was some further reading https://www.bmwmc.net/catalog/61 008 04 (065) EWS Electronic Immobiliser.pdf but it appears to have been taken offline. I'll have to see if I can find a cached copy somewhere and host it myself. It was very informative.
My plan is to find the correct frequency and technology of the rfid chip itself and see if it can be programmed into the computer. Then just tape or attach the small chip to the ignition, maybe even use that glue for the filter mod. If the dealer has to program the key with the moss, shouldn't be much more trouble to find and recognize the loose rfid and program it, as long as it is in the correct frequency range and is formatted to husky spec.
I ordered 2 keys from Husky about a year ago. One arrived after about 3 months and the other arrived 4 months later. They did not have to be programmed with the moss. Both keys flashed the ews error the first time I placed them in the ignition. I removed the keys placed them in the ignition again and they worked. Good luck.
Talked to the dealer today about my key. Seems Husky lost or misplaced all the tooling to get the keys made during the transition. No time frame for when anyone will be able to get a key.
$5 key and the bypass will fix your problem. Should have another report on that soon, someone in Finland emailed asking for details after having a stack and damage to the front, which apparently involved the headlight nacelle getting pushed into the ignition barrel, breaking the antenna-lug resulting in instant EWS-death. No parts available for repairs up in Scandinavia either, by the sounds of it. He'll try the bypass to get mobile again.
Dealer got an update from husky rep. Says they are almost ready to start making keys. Wonder what that means? Also maintains that it will work without using the moss to set it up. I should know in a year or two,
Fun story. First off, it is a magnificent day today, and will be getting out for more riding. I get there and my key checks out good for the notches on the visual. I asked if there was a procedure to make it program etc., no instructions. Their moss has not been working and I am concerned. I put key in bike and get the EWS error. Then I go back to counter and let them know that I am going to try some programming sequences like other vehicles. I have the go pro ready to video log what I did. All three keys, the two that came with the bike and the new one are on my seat as I explain which key is what for this process. I put the new key in to document the ews and whala---no ews and bike started. All three keys work and all is good. The good news seems to be if you lose your key in the wild, you theoretically can have one shipped and be back up and running. Six months to get mine, so you may have to honker down in paradise while waiting on your new key. What I have come away for initialization of the new key is, put it in and turn it on (ews error on mine). Then remove key and walk away and come back and it works. No stock key needed or moss to program it to the bike. I'm a happy camper. and my dealer cut me a price break on the key for waiting so long. Since they seem to have the capabilities to dupe the keys up and running, I bet you could get a key alot faster now. One less thin to worry about.
Congratulations! !! I read the first time the key will throw the ews. The second time it locates one of the ten preloaded key codes in the ecu. They claim the ecu has 10 key codes stored and once they are used, it's sol. Which dealer did you use. Mine did not get it straight and he is 140 miles away, one way.
I use Performance in Tucson. They just ordered the key, and that is all. Nothing to get right other than the order. I had to provide registration and proof of ownership, drivers license and something else. They have a form that has to be filled out and emailed to the correct dept. You can try calling them and talking to Doug in parts. (520) 622-2780 I can help you out if you wish. Maybe he can just do it all over the phone. $80 for the key appx.
Thank you. I will call them. My dealer screwed it up. It was a different vin number on the bag. Then he pulled the special order crap. He lost a customer.
Picked up my spare key today. It also took six months. The dealer felt bad that it took so long that he give it to me for cost. All I needed was the VIN.
I know this guy, the bypass does not seem to be successful. He was nervous waiting for parts and changed the wheel. He was waiting for parts for several months Personally, I have waiting three months for the new instrument panel. Select button got broken and the instrument panel to change the settings by itself. Fortunately, the warranty is valid, do not have to pay
