who else? I'm racing E4 class (senior). After years of racing both days, first in b's, then in A's, this is the first time i've gone for LOI. might be the last if I get embarassed, lol, but the new course and tight stuff should work in my favor.
I am out for this year but Scott (McFate) will be there. Looks like the conditions might be perfect this year.
Weather conditions are perfect : Rained today and trail is going to be dust free. Drew number 3B, so I am in 3rd row off the line OA Should be epic conditions, Mitch
Day 1 in the books. Just got back to hotel in Boise... Nailed checks 2 and 3, but lost 13 mintues to check 4, due to some fueling issues and then waiting at start of grass track test and not realizing that I could have gone ahead of the guys in front of me . Check 1 was start check... Lost 3 mintues at check 5, but adjusted my time and nailed the finisher check and impounded on time...So 16 minutes lost in total time. Special tests were so so time wise for me and the grass track was super fun. I rode to survive and not DNF and I think I didnt do too bad for a fish out of water This is NOTHING like So Cal riding...Boy these PNW guys just rail this type of terrain... Off to dinner, Mitch.
There calling for rain tommorow up here in Idaho City... flash floods in the local mountains Survival mode for sure....finish and see how it plays out LOI wise... Mitch...
I saw SanDHusky at the Grass Track on Saturday and he looked like he was hauling the mail to me. I rode Sunday [after 1/2 inch of rain Saturday nite, Sunday morning] and was in survival mode the whole day. The first 53 miles to the gas stop were pretty tough. All rideable but [at least for me] not rideable fast. Literally 50 mud holes that would kill you. There were 5 in the Grass Track alone -- saw many bikes stuck. Dropped 5 minutes at the first check and about 25 at the gas [I was too tired to care]. Seriously thought of dropping out. Kept going anyway and from mile 67 on it was pretty fun. There were stretches of trail that had the best soil I'd ever seen -- velcro. Finished on Silver and might have done better if I could do math. I burned a couple of the late checks. Props to the Ridge Riders and the people of Idaho City. A memorable race for sure.
Matt was 6 mins behind me, and is a darn good rider. He crushed the sr LOI class and deserves to ride in Mexico. I followed him for a while in a transfer, and he rides smooth and effortless, standing on the pegs, motionless upper body. Later he caught me in a pretty difficult special test and he looked quite different. His bike was bouncing everywhere and he was going like a rocketship. I saw 3b a few times yesterday and idly wondered if he was a cafe husky member. Hope you enjoyed your visit to idaho, sandhusky. Don't expect those same conditions next time, lol. I'm pretty tired today.
Well, Finally made it back home to sunny So Cal, from mudfest 2010, otherwise known as Idaho City 100 WOW!!! That was one intense race The word of week was MUD, everywhere, on you your bike and other places that cant be mentioned BoiseDave, you probably only saw me in the grass track for the 5 seconds I tried to go fast, the rest of the time I rode like I had never ridden a bike before...I actually wadded into the 1st gigantic mud hole on the grass track on day two...I was up to my knees in mud trying to get the bike unstuck rookie move on my part... I feel bad for those that rode beyond the 1st 25 rows, I know they must have been hurting bad back there.... I too was in survival mode for day 2....That middle section before the gras track on day 1 and after the grass track on day 2, was the most draining on me....Overhearing guys talk at the checks, it sounded like this section was hard on everyone....On day 2, I think almost everyone burned that check... Would I do it again? Absolutely Now that I did it, I know I have to train that much harder....Is it 2011 yet Mitch
Which reminds me...Tecate 250 enduro coming up December 5th....Northern Baja hard enduro put on by the Los Ancianos MC club...Motosapiens, BoiseDave, PNW crew, come on down, try one of our events...We'll take care of you down here, you got free room and board at my casa. As much food and adult beverages as you can take.... Mitch
From what I heard they were hurting. I friend of mine rode Saturday in one of the B classes. From what he described, it must have been a nasty muddy mess that really worked him over. Sounded like very few B class riders even finished.
