While prepping Cody's TC 250 for this weekend's race, I noticed an oil leak coming from the skid plate. Long story short... I pulled the plate and found the leak at the bottom of the oil filter cover. Pulled the cover and inspected the O-ring and found it compressed beyond its ability to seal. I change my oil about every 2 hours so this O-ring has about 5 oil changes on it. Obviously, 5 changes was the limit of the O-ring.

I called the dealer to order a few new ones... waiting to see if they are even stocked in the USA yet... but in the meantime, I stuck the old one back in and used Permatex on the mating surfaces. No leak.

Interesting observation: It looks to me like the O-ring groove is machined a bit too large and deep for the O-ring that's supplied.

I'm wondering if I'm the only one who's experienced this so far.

No issues here. Might be able to get that at a hardware store as i believe it is a simple O-ring.

I too have had a leak there. I used permatex also. I just ordered a couple of the o-rings from my dealer and he said no problem they were in stock at Husky. They are a figure 8 type of o-ring, on the TE anyway.

I had the same issue right after my first oil change. I ordered extra "O" rings over a month ago and still waiting on them to come in. I just put a fair amount of grease on the o ring and it has held up so far I think (the bikes still in the shop going on 2 months now.)

Mine leaked too, I thought that I pinched the o-ring but it is compressed the same the whole way around I ordered the parts as well but used silicone and the old o-ring in the mean time

He did great. We entered him in an Unlimited Novice class and he finished 4th out of 16. The TC was amazing against other 4T 250's, 2T 250's, and 450's.

Tell Cory congrats from a fellow Husky owner. So I take it he feels good about the TC 250.

Yes he does. Cody loves the TC so much the pumpkin is on Craigslist!:applause: We may be getting another TC to serve as a backup bike till Husky gets its parts $hit together in the USA. It's hard being a self-supported Husky race team when it takes months to get a damn shock seal, O-ring, or repair manual in the US. That said, the TC 250 is the PERFECT transition bike for Cody to ween himself off 2 strokes. He raves about the lighweight feel and handling. The power is a perfect blend of "not too much" and "there when you need it". I've never seen him ride a bike as fast as he can ride the TC. It makes me wish we had a practice track in our back yard like most of the A/B riders in our region. There's no telling how good he would be if he could ride daily.

Awesome! I am "almost" sure I will be getting one myself. After putting 10-12 laps on our club MX track with my son's, I too love how easy the bike is to ride. 2-stroke light and handling with 4 -stroke smooth power. The perfect blend. Cody finishing fourth his first time out on the TC is a real neat deal. So the pumpkin patch will soon be history.

If it's in for that long just for a stripped bolt hole thread, your dealer is likely the issue, not Husky. Something like that I would have fixed myself in the mean time until the Warranty parts come in.

Careful application of a helicoil unless they are waiting for a brand new head?

I have a 10 TE 250 and I also experienced this oil leak yesterday. It was my second ride after the first oil change (about 60 miles in the odo) and when I got back to the parking area to load the bike I noticed oil was dropping from the skid plate. I took the skid plate off and it appears to come from the oil filter cover...I'll call the dealer today to order some new O-ring and in the meantime get some Permatex as mentioned in this thread....Do I just need to put the Permatex in the surfaces that come in contact with o-ring?

    Thanks

I actually put it on the metal mating surfaces with the O-ring in the grove, taking care to spread a very thin layer and not "glob" it on.

The O-rings are in stock. I just got 3 of them from my dealer.

once again, a simple and quick search on the cafe answered my question... thanks loads.

prolly the 5th filter change, and when running it's pushing oil out the filter cover. i suspected the o-ring, as i also noticed it looked small for the groove it fits in. if the local shop doesn't have the o-ring, i'll be using permatex.

gotta ride... i installed new springs last night, ordered through wyatt seals, and am really looking forward to trying them out. wyatt recommended a heavier set than i would have gone for, but i was willing to trust him. just putting around home i expected them to feel like rocks, but they're very supple, and i'm feeling like he prolly nailed it.
