Was chatting with a friend who is pretty deep in the industry and way into bikes and modifications. Used to be a big KTM fan and moved to concentrating on GG a few years ago. Sold piles of 2011's and then not many 2012/2013 as he said there were to many issues with the bikes. He said he has been working on the new 2014's and they are a much improved bike. Was good to hear because they dont seem to have done to well in the last 2 years and I like the brand and always like more choices. He does a lot of development and gets WAY into it. He has a decked out 2011 300 that I have spoke to a few people that have rode it and say it is amazing. Anyway seems GG might be on the way back which I like to hear. Here is his comments from our conversation and responses to my questions...

    - New frame and subframe and good weight reduction
    - New fasteners and much better build quality and EZer to work on
    - New Reiger shock which he says is a work of art internally and works fantastic
    - Better steering geometry
    - Much better wiring loom
    - Drastically improved engine

wish them the best with it.

I actually like them and am really interested to see what they do with the Husky stuff they bought. Sherco and Beta are still at the top of the list though. Hopefully GasGas uses the 310 to compete with the. Sherco 300 4 stroke

Rumor is they will have a model with the 449 motor in it!

I'm really hoping they got the cts to go with it. Ideally it will be just a TC 449 with white bodywork and a red frame lol

I've been hot for them too ever since I read reviews about how their 2 strokes have a nice even power delivery with lots 'o grunt. Supposedly a great trail/enduro bike. But I think they priced themselves out of the market.

I had an older one and it had a great motor. Was ergonomically to small for me. Now that I look at the pictures I'm wondering why I sold it! BTW these have the sweetest hydro clutch on the planet.

I have a 2012 EC300, once dialled in, straightened out the subframe and air box issues it is pretty amazing. The front in does what ever you want. Think it and it will do it! The motor lugs beautifully, climbs nice and screams like an F1 engine when you ask. The bike is just too tall and has too much motor for the novice that I am.

They must have really changed things as mine above was low (see the tall seat I put on it) and had a mild motor with good power but lots of nice flywheel effect making it EZ to control.

In 2012 they put a couple inches in the frame, after the subframe mod the seat height is just short of 39", the motor is still as you describe, but with 300 cc I couldn't ring it out if I wanted to......and I want to! The magura clutch is sweet, sure makes life easy up & down hills.

I hope they follow the Beta design with the e start. The e start on the current bikes look like a cancer growth

CTS on a two stroke would be awesome. The 449/511 platforms just need a few tweaks to go from very good to great. Various models of the 310 like KTM does with the 350 would be a sales bonanza.

Buddy Adam was riding my 511 one day and got off it and said "I really like that bike, wish they made it in a 350". Maybe GG could build a 350/400 based on this motor in uncorked mode. That would be nice.

I've never rode a GG, or even sat on one, but I always thought they were sweet looking bikes. I remember stopping at the GG dealer in Albany on the way home from a ride to check them out, dang I wanted one. :)

Are you talking about the BMW 449 motor? The rumor I heard said that GAS GAS acquired the 450 x-lite based motor that was supposedly in development. I sure would love to see the CTS get a second chance at life with GG.

I had an '04 EC300 I bought for my son to ride. The motor on that thing was a tractor. Really liked how it pulled. It felt like it had two powervalves b/c the power would step up twice through the revs to me. The few times I rode it, I just could not come to terms with the ergos and handling. The rider compartment felt small to me and the bike felt long. I rode a friend's '12 EC300 and it felt pretty much the same other than the rider compartment felt a little bigger. Same long, slow feeling handling.
My son really liked it and it would pull from 3rd gear in almost any situation and he didn't have to shift much. Was a bit a pain to start. The older kickstarters were pretty short and it took a healthy boot to spin it. I have several friends that ride them and love em. They are a great option and its nice to have options.
