Hi All, Okay so I know that's a tough question to answer without some info. For starters I'm 49, 6'0" and 210lbs, an looking to get into trail riding here in the Midwest (NE Indiana). I was leaning towards a 2005-08 CRF250x for around $3500, until I came across a 2013 TXC310 for $2k!

The bike runs but dies with throttle, according to the owner. I am mechanically inclined and have built 8 bikes, mostly street, so I'm not scared by the challenge. However, I do hear that these bikes have some quality inconsistencies and that there are challenges getting parts.

So should I go for it? Why do you think I should or shouldn't?

Thanks in advance for your advise! This looks like a great community!

The forum was better when these bikes still were made but Im glad its still up and running. The bike is the best bike ive ever owned if you look at the price tag. Also remember that these bikes won the world championships with Meo 2010 and 2011 and Phillips as a junior at 2013 (125 2-stroke). People says these bikes had issues but HEY. Name a brand that doesnt? Ive had three 310s plus a bunch of other bikes and non has given me less issues than these three.

The suspension should be top notch as its KYB DC but unfortunately they did not put much energy into testing in Italy. It works but needs to be rebuilt. Other than that Ive only had two common things during the aprox 400h Ive had on them. Too tight shim on one exhaust valve (2011 and the first 2014). Second 2014 I bought back from the same guy I sold it to. The electric start stopped working but on this bike it was just lack of maintanance. I just took everything appart and put it back together and since than flawless. Also forgot a broken gear sprocket on 2014 no1. It became difficult changing gears during a competition just a kilometer from checkers flag so I took a chance. Was at 3rd place and could see second. Totaly stucked 500 meters later . Bent 2 forks and destroyed 4 sprockets.

So to make all this shit short. I dont know a better bike for the money. If you cant find parts in the US, buy used on eBay. Clutch/brake levers are the same on all Brembo bikes, rear sprocket same as GASGAS pre2019, front sprocket still availabe everywhere, suspension same on all KYB DC (Yamaha, GG pre2019, Sherco and more).

Thanks Soderberg! I used to get over to Europe a couple times a year, I'll just have to make sure I bring a parts list with me I guess!

    Thank you GrooveThang
Update: I bought the bike! Had a brief panic attack about finding parts... then I discovered ktmpartspro.com and was able to get all but the starter parts I need.[IMG][IMG]

I’d plan on not having an eStart and just enjoy her as a kicker only.

I just finished rebuilding the starter, bench tested and put back in the motor. With the valves properly adjusted, why not use the starter? I understand it is not to be used when the motor is hot, is there any other reasons? Thanks.

I have always used my starter, no matter if hot or cold. Works almost flawless for +400 hours devided on three bikes. Only one overhaul on the last bike. Just needed to be checked at. No parts needed to be changed
