is there a trick to the fork lock, smr 510?

Just bought my 2010 smr 510 yesterday and am curious if there is a special trick to the fork lock that im not seeing. i put the key in, twist about 60 degrees to the left and can push it in slightly, but no locking. I am using the same key as the ignition, did the bike originally come with a separate key?
Please help...i dont want to see my new baby get stolen

That would fit, same key as ignition. Here is some info in owner manual

I don't bother with the steering lock, one swift knock/kick to the 'bars and it's no longer a lock, but a thing that rattles inside the head stem. Not to mention if they want the bike enough it's just as easy to pick it up and worry about the lock later.

Mine has never worked from brand new. Tried it twice and gave up.

figured it out. you must put the key in, turn the lock and start to turn the bars clockwise untill the latch slides through the slot w/ in the frame!

That soo easy, if not coming to work...Test some fluid in the key base and around the hole that lock system. I have seen that is hard to get work, but my is working like new....
