Is there any talk of a replacement for the TR650 Terra? I know the TR650 Terra as it was won't be coming back, but is there a suitable replacement in the wings? By replacement I mean a similar sized bike with similar performance and use.
    Cheers

There is a 690 enduro and 690 supermoto coming out this year. That's about as close as it will get for now

Isn't the 690 just a rebadged KTM? We have a KTM dealer here in my town, but they're all so tall I'd need a step ladder to climb on. One of the really good things about the 650 terra was that I could probably learn to climb on board one. I'm "altitudinally challenged" - 5'7". I've even looked at the Suzuki DR560, but I'd need practice getting on that without causing serious self harm.

Go ride a 690 - It is an amazing motorcycle. I am looking forward to Bill's Motorcycle Plus in Salem, OR getting the Husky versions so I can get service from Him. My KTM dealers are so-so. I trust Bill's.

We just need Tinken to get after the 690 motors!

We had my wife's 690 lowered and at 5'9" she is happy.

I know the TR has almost as much power as the 690 but Id argue if you were looking to replace like with like id look at the BMW G650 GS (Single 650cc), as well as the 690. The 690 more dirt oriented than the GS, particularly in the power delivery and suspension. Personally though the G650 has little appeal to me.

Don't worry, I can tell you that Tinken is planning ahead to put some ponies down.

I replaced my TR650 with a 2015 KTM 690, and have not looked back. My issue with the TR was offroad handling, and comfort when standing. Offroad there is no comparison, the KTM handles great on fire roads, single track, sand, etc where the TR was a real handful. THe KTM us not as comfortable on the tarmac, a little buzzy over 70 mph, but that's the trade off that I am fine with. Once I hit the dirt it's a hoot, one of the most fun bikes I have had! (BTW I have an FE501 for serious offroad)

So depends on what you need in a DS bike.

Any bike with the three letters B M W on the tank is a bike I would run from. Look (read) how much grief the TR owners have had.

For anyone even considering a big B M W Adv. bike I would say hold on a little longer, the Honda Africa Twin will be here shortly.

I will admit, I have entertained the thought of a Husky 701 Enduro myself.

As a BMW owner (07 Dakar) I have been very happy with mine it has been rock solid for 100,000 km. this fall I bought an 08 690 and while it is amazing, it is a little quirky ....problems I'm working on eliminating. The light weight and power compared to other bikes in its class sold me on it but I'm still not completely smitten. Africa twin @ 500lbs, I don't think so. Weight is why I moved to the 690.

The only problem with the 690 is the rocker arms. That seems to plaque the new ones also. It would seem an aftermarket company would step up with a fix.

Yep, they bearing in the rocker goes south. Some have had the problems at 4000 to 5000 miles. So far it appears it is a special size bearing not an off the shelf bearing. The shaft bearing goes out which affects the roller follower. It can take out the cam when the go.
