Is this the correct kick start lever for an 83 XC500?

On my 1983 XC500 the lower part of the kick start lever (arrowed below) rubs on the clutch casing each time I kick the bike over.

So the kick start lever is in two parts, the upper (silver) lever part and the lower (black) bit with the splines. On mine there is a tab that sticks out to the rear of the lower part. This rubs my case. Here's a photo of the bit that rubs:

Looking around at other photos, I don't see this tab. Here's another XC500 example:

So here's my question - do i have the wrongh kick start lever, or has it been wrongly assembled? Can I just file off the bit that sticks out?

    Any views welcomed.

    Thanks a lot.

    Aluminium kicker

Hi WRX, it's a long story, but the short answer is "I don't know".

This is a bike I bought in October 2008 off eBay. I had it delivered straight to the shop to be fixed up and road registered so I can enduro it. It was described as a completely new-out-of-the-crate 1983 XC500. It is all new, just not all 1983, and not all XC500! There are so many things messed around with I'm thinking of running a competition on here to see who can spot them all.

I'll post up a project thread when I get the bike and can get good photos! Hopefully a few weeks away now.

    Cheers

    Hi Rick

Return spring missing. Looking for a replacement. Would you be able to tell me what make they are please?

They're new Ohlins, not sure which or how appropriate to the XC. Here's a photo:

    Stock I think.

It's the original paint. Despite lots of problems getting this bike up and running, it is new and has never been ridden.

When I collect the bike, I'll start a project thread.

    Cheers

    There Modern Ohlins shocks

    Lucien,
The shocks on your bike are modern Ohlins shocks, great shocks
just different then the original ITC Ohlins that came on the bike.

Real nice bike , hope my 84 500CR looks that good one
    day.

    Lucien,

Sweeeeeet find!!! Congrats. Post up photos when you get it. Alot of guys out here would love to see original NOS equipment. White OEM plastic - very rare. New Ohlins. Bent/extended clutch arm. No rust or wear mark. Dang it - I'm jealous.

Your pegs look like the Husky Products reproductions that Phillip sells. They might be stock OEM for that year/model. Don't know for sure. Try Phillip for some stock Husky footpeg springs. He seems to have everything you might need. Has for me anyway.
