RV is headed to Europe, boys! Hopefully he will run the MXdN next year for us, with his European connection and all. http://racerxonline.com/2014/09/30/report-villopoto-to-kawi-europe-and-gps
Crud, that sux. Was hoping to see him stay home. Well, maybe he'll dominate there too. And, maybe he can save the sport from the clutches of Luongo.
Its a nice trophy to have an FIM MXGP world championship, the travel and seeing the world, him and wife are in a good place, he's going on deployment for a season, Kaw wants some glory from Kato. MXGP #1 trophy not too many US riders have one. as an MXGP rookie..its not going to be easy even for him.
Key statement "and in my final year of racing" “I am ready for the final chapter of my career, and in my final year of racing I am looking to accomplish something no one else has achieved,” said Villopoto. “I’ve never been one to look at the record books so when an opportunity like this comes around, to race against the best in the world and represent the U.S.A., I have to see it through. It will be a major change of pace, but I am extremely excited about the opportunity and also to be joined by a former champion like Tyla. He knows what is needed to succeed on the world championship stage and I know I can learn a lot from him.”
This should be quite a show for all dirt bike racing during this time frame... Both over there and in the states ... I'll just say good luck RV2 and Rattray ... Probably gonna take a lot of team work to make this work out smoothly and not just rely on RV2 speed each week... Two teams might just be better than 1 also ... KAWI moves on KTM turf is what I'm seeing.
Gaultier Paulin to HRC for 2015, last I heard. For another tip of the spear MXGP rider on a real factory bike. PS in MXGP the Honda team is a real factory HRC team.
Paulin has been on Kawis for a long time. The move to HRC should be interesting. Some of Honda's full-works GP bikes of late haven't really worked out on the track, though they have been rolling artwork and technology testbeds. Is Bobryshev getting the elbow?
I hope he will dominate...but I think he's in for a tough time. Now I have to figure out how to watch it
So does Hughes!! I don't think anyone so dominant has gone over there to race. I could see it both ways. If anyone could crush 1st year, it would be Villopoto. View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0J-lFUsga8
2015 FIM MXGP schedule -- Feb 28 - Sep 13 - 18 races -- Hope RV does not loose focus at about the ~5 month mark ... Does he have to get a new number for his plate? -- I'm afraid to listen to Ryno ... He's a very good ex-rider, MXdN racer (rode a 500 in '95 when he had raced a 125 all yr), trainer, and champion somewhere I'd bet but sometimes comes off the wall ...

“Everything Ryan has planned for 2015 – the move to Europe, racing the six days, it’s all about Dakar. It’s just amazing no one can see that. It’s so f**king obvious,” commented someone who reads the internet. “If Ryan can get his head around fries with mayonnaise while in Europe then he’s as good as ready for Dakar. Everyone knows the culinary challenges the event throws up are way harder to deal with than any other aspect of the event. “He’s super adaptable so no one doubts that by January 2016 he’ll be ready for spit-roast Alpaca, or whatever the hell it is they eat in the Dakar bivouac every night. The ISDE is simply about adjusting to a bike with a light on the front of it, just like his Dakar machine will have...”
I first i thought he was crazy for not staying and breaking records here. I was wrong, why break a record that will be broken again 10 years down the road when you can be a champion everywhere and in multiple disciplines and be known not only to the US as the GOAT but to the world. I wish him the best, hope his competition gets their asses handed to them
Hughes has a good read on it, although there are a goodmany others besides Tony C. to contend with. It will be fun for everyone each week with tracks that are not groomed and feature some off cambers once in awhile. The older tracks in Europe can be very difficult as everyone knows so good on Ryan i look forward to it. American MX is so boring with 7 jumps and a turn then 3 tabletops and a turn,,,,,,,,,,Yawn. And maybe he will fail but at least he went to race it, Hannah didn't have the nuts but Lackey did .................
Next maybe the time differences will work out for you ... I've given up on the live events and I'm OK with that .. Maybe the EU time-slots will fit me better over here? Just put the race out on youtube within a few days and I'm ok with that ...
I found the full statement, the above one omits this for some reason. It appears before the final paragraph.... When it comes to the bike, the tracks—that’s all the stuff I am really good at. I have a good base coming from KMC. Our factory bike is one of the best. Kawasaki of Europe, they have a good bike as well. The great thing is that it’s going to be essentially the same bike—with a few different parts and set-up a little differently. I know how I like to ride my bike and have it set-up, so I plan on doing the same. As far as the competition goes, I have raced the majority at des Nations, but that’s a hard race to gauge off. It’s kind of like Anaheim 1—not the best place to make assumptions. I feel like Tony Cairoli’s probably going to be one of my strongest competitors. You can’t not think he’s going to be the guy—he’s won eight years in a row! Then there’s other guys like Gautier Paulin and Steven Frossard. The Europeans are going to be tough. I think they will surprise me in areas and I will surprise them in areas. We’re flying into Brussels on October 10 to meet the team, I’ve met a few of the guys already, and go see the race shop. The race shop is in Holland which is about 40 miles from where my friend and teammate Tyla Rattray lives—basically just outside of Lommel. He’s going to do some testing at Saint Jean. It’s where I last raced des Nations in ’11.
