• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Garmin says 42 miles. 9800' scaled. steep canyons. super fun. half fast climbs with monster clanker air-outs, half slow 'n tight, lotsa gravity racing. brought my flip phone, i think a go-pro would get ripped off unless it was on the back of yer lid, the tight stuff it eats goggle straps (no safety glasses please). so sorry, no 1080p hi def movies blah blah blah, old school, look close like fer stuff.

ok...here's where it gets interesting...im plonking along on the Porkinator hang a left and BAM! my left foot hits a HUGE stone, it sends my boot into the frame/wheel, whatever, and....i go off the side, and down, and down and down....Porky's up there on the cut, front wheel in the air (trees rule thank you), back wheel spining going dadingdingdingding...i scramble up kill it shut off the gas and survey. a giant rock was sticking out of the cut. i caught my boot toe on it and uprooted it. my foot went numb for a few mins, but, nothing busted, yay! roll rock over the side and listen to it go to china, i think a bear screamed i dunnow, pick up the bike, move on.

BACON DOWN! :eek: check that monster rock i dislodged with my FOOT. :censored:

it's easily 200+#. my bike is 200#, i lifted it back on the trail..... this thing? nope. but, i kicked it out of it's hole! buwahahahaha!

ok- back on with the rabbit hole ride...there was some more drama, a nice giant harpooning of my left forearm, this trial finds the chinks in yer armor....

rabbit's lair...it goes in 100y or so, hooks a hard right, then up n out...and it gets narrow. do NOT go off. im holding the phone out to the left...touching the cut.

cant get it all in with this stupid phone...its a neat grotto with a full canopy. meditation kinda stuff. dig it. my rt foot is in air...no dirt under it. left foot is down...dont loose yer balance!

so that's it...some highlights of my ride....the other side is steep and rocky and steep and rocky and fast and rocky and steep. nothing real remarkable, just fun and a great workout. i saw 15 quail, two mule deer, came home with two ticks and 14 of them green inch worms all up in my shorts. most of you old school so cal boys know this ride. give a shout if ya wana team up fer some jersey shreddin. time to ice my ankle/toes.
