Hey guys, I just bought a brand new 2013 0 miles TRS650 on eBay still in the factory crate and is being shipped to my house. My question is will it come with the hardware (nuts, bolts, screws). I know I have to put the front wheel, and the handle bars on that's no problems I've put a few bikes together just not brand new out of the crate ones. Also will the bike come with a battery or will i have to pick one up? I know I'm going to need to add fluids. Anyways thanks for the info in advance.
Yes it should come with a box inside that has all the hardware to put it together. I believe the battery was already in the motorcycle just disconnected. I bought mine the same way. Everything was pretty straight forward if you have worked on bikes before.
Welcome to the club. There are a number of resource articles here to help you with some of what you need to know.: http://advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=24352468&postcount=4293 and here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=24330343&postcount=4253 In order of importance (IMHO) address the following (see the references above): 1. Pick a filter/air box modification and do one ASAP Ask anyone about it. 2. Do the fenderectomy 3. Change the rear rack or only load it lightly 4. Change the coolant and burp the system
Nice. Do yourself a favor and use ZipTy Racing's XF waterless coolant. The factory coolant isn't very good and you have a good opportunity to skip it. Also find out if the dealer has an official first startup procedure. I have heard that you are supposed to start it and let it idle for 10min without touching the throttle ever, in order to let the ECU calibrate. Not sure the truth of this, but I don't think it would hurt. Research how to properly fill the oil. It really does take almost exactly 2 liters of oil, and can be easy to fill incorrectly. Follow the workshop manual procedure, it is correct.
Wouldn't hurt to double check all the bolts for proper torque. There have been a couple cases of people losing engine mounting bolts, or finding others loose. Not too common, but possible.
The battery should come dry. I would shelf it and buy an Odyssee or Ballistic. Once you fluid up the battery, you get about a year, where as you could sell it and put that money towards a good one.
I have had my battery so far for about 18 months with no problems. I think the big problem with the batteries is how often you ride? I ride every day so my battery will last longer than most.
thanks for the responses guys I will definitely pictures when it gets here. I'm in Florida it's coming from New Mexico.according to the shipper it should be here the first week of November. In Florida its nice to ride in the winter. this will be my second husky I had at 610 sm.
Do not forget to put fuel en enjoy the ride on you new Strada. This is actually the most important, if you forget this last, otherwise all the rest makes no sense. Ride to live, live to ride, John
Wow, I've always wanted to get a bike in the crate! Seems like such a fun project and you can make sure it's done right the first time. Congrats
I knew exactly what he meant as I read it. If'n the project part doesn't make you smile the riding part will. I'm 8k in and still smiling like an idiot every time I ride the Strada. Follow steps one through six and seven will be inevitable.
