KTM = Kraftfahrzeuge Trunkenpolz Mattighofen. Kentucky is a fine state, I'd like to visit sometime. Possibly one of the many other members who own KTMs in addition to their Husqvarnas could share their input. Or maybe there is someone who knows more about Kentucky that could give their input on that fine state. I've been admiring that area of the USA for being fairly ingenious regarding catering to the off road riding segment, they have been opening up more and more riding areas while much of the rest of the world seems to be shutting them down. For the time being I'll assume it was a serious question and not meant to be derogatory towards the people that choose KTM or live in Kentucky.
I'm not sure what the "K" stands for, but based on my recent KTM ownership experiences, the "TM" means "TEMPORARY MOTOR"...
nothing bad about kentucky or the bikes, just pokin some fun at a friend of mine, certainly dont want to offend anyone. mike
Kick The Mutha? On the other hand, it could have been named for my 1991 540 two stroke: Kill That Mountain. Actually, the K is for Kronrief, one of the original guys, along with Trunkenpolz, founded in Mattighoffen Austria.
KTM stands for Kant take Mexico But if you try remember to bring a tow rope so some one can help you get home
Thank you, this post helps tremendously. It allows people viewing the thread unfamiliar with ktms some perspective. Yes there are people that new to riding in general that shop for bikes and find the license plate on the TEs appealing - I talk to those people often. It it will also (hopefully) demotivate the ktms die hards from signing up to give their viewpoints.
Me too, I have friends that have the KTM. I don't so they call it a thing. What's that thing, I thought they only made power tools. Like the other buddy that rides a Husabergawatchamacallit. LOL, It's all in fun...
I like dirt bikes.....It doesn't matter the make, I can see the beauty in all of them......I want a new HVA TXC 310 or a Husaberg 390, or a WR 250 in the new frame. But my wallet tells me to stick with my 2007 XCW400 for now. So many bikes I want so little time or money. Kan't Take Motocross
A moderators note Hi everyone, I just wanted to voice my concern about this thread. I know it's all in good fun, believe me I have a few acronyms for KTM as well and my friends that ride them have lots of pet names for my Husky. The thing is that sometimes the written word doesn't come across with the same humor that the spoken word does. We really don't want this to turn into a KTM bashing thread for any # of reasons, not the least of which is that we're nicer than that. There is also the possibility that some KTM riders will take offense to the good nature d kidding and begin checking in here to make whatever derogatory comment they can come up with. At that point things start to get messy and we moderators ( you're humble servants and janitors) get stuck having to clean things up. Please be mindful of these things when posting.
I would hope that the KTMer's of the world would have thicker skin than that, I know I do. I love my KTM, I love my Husqvarna, I love my Honda, I love my vintage 1980 Yamaha SR 500, I love motorcycles. With that said, I give my buddies that ride other makes or even other year models hell, just for fun..... My best buddy is riding a Kawasaki KX 250 smoker. If I'm not laughing at the Green Monkey the I'm joking that I think his bike is smoking & may have dropped a valve. Seriously, if some KTM guy's are trolling the site looking for derogatory statements about a damn motorcycle then they've got some terminal brain issues. Some recent pics of me & monkey boy
I'm not saying that I'm going to put the brakes on this thread, just asking that everyone be aware of where it might go.
I understand....I'm sure if they are looking for KTM defined, then this will just be one stop of many. So to all you young guys out there, no matter how old you are & what you ride. Learn to laugh, It's really, really good for you.
