125-200cc Keihin 38mm carby question

I have the stock 1999 TMX carb on my 125. I've read the Keihin is a better carb to deal with as far as jetting. My question, are they all the same. I found one local from a 250r ATV, a 38mm flatslide, the only number I can see on it is "PJ 38DGDKC" (or O at the end, not C).

It has a Sudco decal so I'm guessing it isn't the stock carb from that ATV.

So, better than the TMX?

They are not all the same . There would be plenty of near new 38 PWKs around for sale if you want one - post on classifieds.
The 36 and 38 PWKs are both good and easy to get jets and screw top is handy
PS - If the bike is running fine I would nt bother - get a pipe instead

I'll probably hold off to see if I can even adjust to a 125 again, then get a Lectron or Smartcarb based on the reviews.

No not all Keihin carbs are the same.
If it is a PJ type keihin it will have an oval slide not the flat D slide like the PWK air striker. The PJ were standard equipment on Honda 2ts in their day.
Most of the jetting info on here is for the PWK style carb. So it may not be as specific as you may need. Come to think of it I can't remember ever seeing any one asking for jetting specs for the PJ.
You might be better off trying a 36 mm PWK Airstryker for your 125 as they give a better bottom end response than the 38 mm without sacrificing much top end at all.
Or a Lectron would be the go, and do away with the added expense of jets and needles

Thanks, saw it cheap and could use a little education on them. I've been using the FCRs for too many years!

TMX seems to give better top end power on a 125.

PWK runs much cleaner down low and idle jetting is way more consistent.

There was a older style PWK in the classifieds section that would fit your bike.
