Comments please from anyone with experience of these tyres ? 90/90 x 21 Grip, longevity etc Good points Bad points
Yup I have em on my Terra right now. Great tires AFTER they break in. Be warned they are slippery mother hubbards outta the box. Once scrubbed in they are great. I have one on the front with almost 4500 miles on it now. They are really grippy and seemingly long lasting. I paired it with the 140 rear tire and found that I need a 8-10 PSI difference front to back. Example - 15# front 25# rear. This gives you the best grip and the best ride.
My rear Big Block was toast after about 3-3.5k. I have a BB on the front now still kicking with 6.5k miles. Running a Heidenau on the back.
How long does it take to break in the Kenda's? I have about 300 miles on them and they are still squirrely. Running about 18 PSI front 24 PSI rear. The front tucks under bad when ever it hits the slightest amounts of soft sand. The bike wiggles badly at speeds over 55 on dirt and 70 on pavement.
I use a ten PSI split in mine. Rear 25, front 15. It took a good 400 miles or so before they were stable, after that they are rock solid.
OK thanks, I'll keep running them for a while longer and play a bit with pressures and see what happens. I was just about ready to take the wheels off and put my 19/17's back on.
I ran Kenda big block front and rear, did some local riding, Wattagans then Broken Hill, Yunta, Flinders Rangers. Personally I wouldn't buy them again. I didn't like the feel of the front tyre it was very washy especially in grave. Not confidence inspiring at all. The back wore out fairly quickly and the front tyre developed a ramp on the knobbies whick made the front end bounce up and down on the road. I have since changed to Mitas eo7 front and rear and I am about to buy a second pair after 12,000km. Great tyre all round, I was surprised how much better they are than the more agressive Kendas, especially on the gravel roads. Ive done a lot of riding around the Wattagans, Hunter Valley, Barrington Tops and Liverpool Plans and found I push a lot harder on the Mitas eo7' s. Cheers Craig
I don't feel the need for Eo9's on the Terra, the eo7' s are great on the road as well. I tend to run 28 psi road and bush. Cheers Craig
Saw this up again so thought I'd update: The Front BB took a dump at about 7k miles. Knobs started wearing very unevenly and the tire is about to get swapped out for a T-63 up front. Pretty happy with the mileage and grip across the board. Just thought I'd try the T-63 with the Heidi (so far, an excellent tire) in the back.
The Mitas E07s have my vote too. Just completed a 4000km trip of mixed surfaces including gravel, sand, bull dust and tar and they have been great. Just as happy with them for my daily sealed road commute both wet and dry.
Has anyone other than DRZCharlie had good luck with the Kenda Big Blocks? I dug them back out again but god are the awful about wiggle/wobbling at speeds. I hate to throw away tires with so little wear, but I need to either break down and replace them or buy a stabilizer. FWIW my 19/17s with the Full Bores dont wobble nor did the stock 21/18 Metzlers so I would like to think the stabilizer is not a necessity.
Yeah I am running Big Blocks right now and they work well after the break in. Mine tend to get sketchy above 80mph, but otherwise they are light years ahead of the stock tires. I plan to give the Mitas E07s a shot after I wear them out, although supermoto wheels/tires sound fun...
How long did it take you for break in? I think I am over 600 miles on these now and they still go squirrely around 70. A bummer as I find the bike wants to run between 75-80.
