Bought a 12 yr old Yamaha TTR-90 for my 9 yr old son. Left peg bracket is bent I now realize. It didn't come with a kickstand. I bought the correct one from Yamaha. However, the bike leans over at an almost 45 degree angle on the stand. I think the bent peg bracket is the culprit. It needs about 1-1/2" to 2" added to it. Without it, the bike wants to sink in the Jersey sand. Any good ideas? The main problem is I'm not a a welder or metal worker. Screw a block of wood to the base plate? That's too ham and egg I think.
Mike take some pictures of it and post it. If I can see what the frame and foot peg looks like I may be able to help you with a solution. With out seeing it, I can not tell you whats going on here. I am a welder by trade and I hope I can offer you some advice.
Thanks Jersey. I started making a simple extension bracket but then quickly saw it would be too rigged up to work well. I would need a longer spring, stops on the kickstand and new bracket. Then who knows how sturdy it would be. So I was able to bend the mounting tab out some and that helped a little. I bought a length of 1" square aluminum tube. Going to cut it and shape it with a grinder and bolt it under the stock stand footplate. I'll see how that works then add a base if needed to spread the load. Thanks for the offer of help, though!
So here's 3/4 of the fix. Square tube bolted to the stand plate. Haven't tried it in the dirt but the tube reduces the footprint of the stock stand. I'll probably add a plate to spread the load and then spray everything black.
Looks like a simple enough fix with out straightening what ever caused the stand to roll up. If it works and it's does not cause you a major heart ache, it's all good.
