KENTUCKY OFF ROAD HARES SCRAMBLES ROUND 6
    Salt River Run, KY

Round 6 was held in Mercer County just out side of Lawrenceburg KY. There had been recent heavy rains throughout northern KY the day before the event, which left racers preparing for a mud race. Fortunately for most, the area had missed out on the 3” of rain that had hit just a few miles up the road. The track turned out to be just about perfect with great traction.

I lined up on the inside of my class for the first left hand turn. Now normally I do not do well on starts but this new Husqvarna TXC510 has changed all of that. All season long I have either got the holeshot or have been 2nd too the first turn. This is the fastest starting 4-stroke I have ever been on! It actually starts faster than most 2-strokes. With a swift flick of the thumb, I was already a bike length out front halfway to turn one and this is against quite a few 2-strokes in my class.

I led for about the first half of lap one until I made a wrong turn letting a few people slip by. It wasn’t long before I caught back up to the leader of our class Big Dave McWilliams. We rode together in 1st and 2nd for the first two laps setting a decent pace. Near the end of lap 2, Dave got a front flat and pulled off for repairs. So I took the lead and picked up the pace and started picking off riders for a better overall finish.

By lap 4 I had settled into a groove. On this lap, my good friend and GateWay Cycles teammate Bryce Gartman caught and passed me. I was glad this happened because he was flying! I tucked in behind him and we started picking off even more riders. I stayed behind him for 5 or 6 miles, I was glad this happened because I didn’t realize that my pace was slower than it should have been. I picked a better line coming up the hill from the creek and never saw him again. I kept this pace up until the finish.

I finished the race 1st in the Vet A class and 10th overall, which I was very pleased with. I can’t say enough good things about this Husqvarna, it has been flawless this year and hasn’t required anything more than basic routine maintenance.

Once again the KORHS crew put on a great event! The tracks this year have been simply amazing. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next weekend at Saddleback.

We've been blessed with great weather this summer. It's normaly in the 90's with 100% humidity. It's been in the 70's to 80's for highs with low humidity for the whole month of July, it's the first time in history that we haven't hit 90 in July.
