KYB conversion?

So now that Huskys come with KYB forks what would it take to put a set on an older Husky? First would the forks off a newer YZ250 etc be the same? If so what parts would one want off the donor bike and what Husky oem parts would one need to buy? I have an 06 and was thinking that if I keep it I will upgrade the forks. I was thinking of FBF 50’s or some TC 50’s but maybe the KYB is a third option?

eBay has GOBS of YZ YZF forks on there pretty reasonable. The Zokes will be a lot harder to find.

Showa's aren't hard do swap over, so I'd guess the KYB's wouldn't be much harder. One thing you might look into is the new adjustable offset clamps offered in the '10 special parts book. Then find you a good machinist with a mill and a boring head and you should be able to make any fork fit.

Can somebody measure and post the diameters of the 2010 KYB's at the top and bottom clamping areas?

    I've got a 06' YZ. 48mm.
    Wanna see if they fit?

I am asking if it would be an easy and inexpensive conversion now that these forks come oem. If I have to buy the oem tripple clamps I would guess it would get expensive. I really don't want to get into machining custom parts.

Would the Yamaha, etc tripple clamps work? Would they be the correct offset? If they did then I was thinking I could get the correct wheel spacers as oem Husqvarna parts. I am not sure what to do on the front brake but I would just use the donars Nissan unit if needed.

If it is simple and not too expensive I might start looking for a set. If not I have ridden the TC 50's that come on the newer TXC/TC and they are fantastic also, just harder to find. I could probably find a set though or better yet a set of the FBF forks mainly due to their being very cool.

If we can find out the OD's of the 2010 tubes I can tell you what you'll need, depending on what bike you're putting them on.

I've put SHOWA's on both my '08 TE and my '07 WR now.

What do you want to put them on?

Hi Motorhead and happy Thanksgiving. Can I ask what prompted you to put the Showas onto your Huskies. Also did you need to shim up the clamps for the 510, being a 50ml for the zokes and I think 48 for the showas.

    Cheers.

I used Honda clamps on both. Shimming is a possibility, but I had some Honda clamps here, along with a new set of Showa forks.

I like the Showa and have a lot of tuning parts for them. The WEC guys were running them in '08. They were OE Honda forks and I saw a couple of pictures of WEC team bikes with red Pro Circuit clamps on them. PC doesn't make Husky clamps and their red ones are Honda clamps. So, I figured they must work fairly well if they're doing it, and they do. Very easy to fit Honda clamps on a Husky.

About 52mm for the top and 59mm for the bottom on the 2010 TXC250 KYB's. Will do exact for you soon.

That's real close to a Honda Showa. I think mine mic at like 52.7mm / 58.5mm, if I remember right.

I'm looking at the new 8000H2699 clamps in the "Special Parts" catalog if that's the case. I like the huge amount of adjust ability in the new clamps.

So now, what's the OD's of the newer YZ KYB's?

Kind of off topic but close enough to not start a new thread. My question is: If one were to purchase aftermarket "kit" kyb suspension (making sure the diameter of the fork sliders are the same, 48mm), would it be as simple as swtching out the fork lugs between the stock and the kit. Therefore, could you put the stock KYB lugs (using stock forks off 2010 TC 250) off the TC onto the Kit forks and everything bolt right up without any issues? Just wondering and thinkng outloud. Peace.

Be awesome to see a parts list and maybe a little write up or a guide on how to get this done?
