So I took my te300 out for a ride today and really got on it a bit. The bike is snappy but it we really seems to fall on its face as it revs out. The mid range is really lacking especially in 3rd. What can I do to help this out without sacrificing the low end grunt?

My 14 TE300 was the same. I replaced the cdi for the 14 sx250 cdi and improved low down and mid range significantly, but it still fell on it's face on the top. I replaced the 36mm carb with a 38mm smart carb and wow the bike flat out rips mid to top, but it lost a little in the first eight of the throttle. I have not had the time to devote to trying to tune the smart carb yet so I cannot say if the first eight can be tuned better. Even at Colorado altitude with the smart carb in it's present state of tune I do not feel the need to lower the gearing. The TE air box is very restrictive try installing some uni air box vents it will help the mid to top end. Having the carb over bored so it's 36mm for the first half and the second half is 39mm will give you what you are looking for. ( Dick's Racing does this and adds a Dial-a-Jet which helps the top.)

I haven't ridden the new 300s but my understanding is that they do not rev out like 250s. The 300s trade some over-rev for getting more low-end.

What jetting changes have you tried on the main jet and/or needle clip?

It is true that the 300 does not rev out like the 250 but the TE's air box is so restrictive the 300 looses out on it's top end.

Isn't the idea of the 300 is to use the torque? Play with the p/v adjustment...

I have not changed anything yet. I bought the bike brand new so I wanted it to break in. I just bought the map switch but I think I need to jet it. I was told it is jetted really rich for the break In

sounds like you maybe be too lean on needle clip go up a half clip if you have the needle.
install the red spring it generally improve upper mid to top because the PV is opening a little earlier than the other springs
