Like I posted on another sight to a guy who said the same thing This is not weird it is just another form of racing. One that I enjoy. I really like the fact that very few if any one ever needs to take a ride in the ambulance . So much safer than pinned across the desert or coming up short on a triple jump. I so hate high speed these days, I like the bike control stuff and working on gearing and body fitness to be able to finish these races. I wish there were more like in in Europe.
But here we only have a few of them.

Ok, different. I was not saying bad, just how much endurocross has changed the face of racing.

Even though it may be easier on the personal damage, it sure looks rough on a piece of equipment.

Do the bikes normally make it through in one piece? They seem to see their share of mother earth and whatever else is set up!

I have done King of the moto 3 times and have done Last dog Standing 4 times on the same bike and never hurt a thing In fact I just sold that bike to Mr Walt AKA 165 man I rode my WR 250 and did not hurt anything
most people who take the time to protect there bike and ride with there head on straight do not break there bikes . a broken bike is cheaper then a broken body part

Im game for tough...but in my one small man opinion I'm not into drag my bike contests.
If an expert can ride it good enough. But like I said in the erzberg thread when even the best guys in the world cant ride something, than to me its no longer a moto race.
We can hire a Swede strong man that knows how to ride a moto, when he gets hung up he can throw the bike on his back and run over the obstacle with ease (those guys hoist and run with 3 times as much weight as a moto) (being facetious)
And absolutely without any disrespect to John, dude more power to you for getting as far as you do, you rock and went further than a lot of actually faster and younger guys--
PS even AMA Hall of Famer Ty Davis gave you big props for your efforts the other day when we were up there.

That's the "weird" part I was alluding to.

Here is the bottom line for me. I like to do this a few times a year. What I like is the challenge to enter a event that I know will be very hard to finish. One that I know that for the most part I will not finish. Then after the race look at what I did and work on what it will take for me and my bike to do better the next time. I don't care about any one else it is me and the track that day. I so do not want to go faster and take any more chances to win races. These races for me are about me and my ability to finish one. 3 years ago I was the last official finisher at KOM I felt like I won that day. The last 2 years it has got harder and I have not finished. Next year I will try again and will continiue to keep trying as long as I can take the challenge. This year at LDS it was harder then last year I did not go as far as I went last year but still won because I went farther then anyone else in my class. I will be back next year and try to go farther
Next weekend is the big Bear Dual sport and they have a All Hard Ways 180 trail You would not believe how many guys will show up on big heavy dual sport bikes and try it Yet think LDS is crazy

I've joined the not liking high speed stuff too. I attribute it to getting older and wiser but also preferring a test of skill better than a test of bravery/crazy.

How did you like the 250 compared to the 165 or 144 or 125? I keep thinking I'd like the 125 better but truthfully I'm better off on my wr250

The Bone Stock 2006 WR 250 motor geared 12/48 was easier to ride overall then the 165 in this stuff. Very hard to stall and had enough low end to craw up any hill and you had control of the power. It is a little heavier then a 165 and harder to start on the side of a hill but overall at the level and steepness of the hills we were riding it had a few more good traits over the 165. Hope by next year to be on a new TE 300 6 speed with a button You know what bike that I saw a few of that seem to really work well at these events The KTM Freeride 300

its a 250. They also make a freeride 350 but it is a 4 stroke and for some reason we don't get that here. Also a electric version.

They call it the "Toughest Motorcycle Race in the US" (the guys at KOM may want to take exception with that:busted: ). From a spectator standpoint, it's really fun to watch and races are more than something to make the entrants happy. When people go to a desert race and aren't racing, they are usually pit, club, Rescue3, or family support for the racers. The only people waiting for you to come by are the volunteers at checks and road crossings. The only place people come to watch is at the pits/finish. Most of the race it's just you, the bike, the desert, and your fellow competitors.

At LDS, we could walk a couple hundred yards and see the ZipTy endurocross section, the up and downhills by the Glen Helen sign, teeter totter, the tire bridge, earth mover tire wall, etc.

Bottom line is this race is not just for the racers, the spectators can get close to the action and yell encouragment to the racers and basically the only thing they can't do is help a rider drag their bike. Watching videos doesn't do it justice. I would like to say maybe next year I'll even give it a shot, but I know if I'm not racing, I'll be there to watch.

It's just good ol fashioned moto-tainment.

Those pics are cool ... I'd probably not make across those wet log crossing and other obstacles and stuff but might have a chance if I was out in distance ... Those big cement pipes might be fun to ride through...

I hear ya on the fans being right in the action ... Really makes it exciting ...

Ajax i really hope to join you for kom and lds. They are some of the coolest races in the US. Some great bragging rights even attempting these races that a lot won't even try. Where the hell is your video? Feel like i should have already watched it a few times lol.
