http://www.district37ama.org/forums/showthread.php?66071-Larry-Huffman-to-announce-Last-Dog-Standing!!! check this out Last dog Standing is great This will be my 5th year and the first year with out the 165 going to try a Husky 250 this year
I know the crew from ZipTy has been down there doing their best to beat the stuffin out of you guys. I'm going to come watch the madness.
Have fun, I'll be railing a marked trail ride near Tecate and then eating and drinking after with a big crew of like minded goons. Yes we will sweat too, it will be hot. A full report is due post event.
I was gonna come join you Robert, but the trek was too far and gotta be home Sunday. Have fun, looks like a hoot.
I was going to show up and do this on my 1975 Husky 360, but alas I will be tied up at work. I probably wouldn't have made past LDS1 anyway.
What a fun event...to watch that is. Congrats to John (ajaxauto) for his class win and to Cody Webb on his amazing performance. I tried to post this" "Live" from LDS, but I think the local cell site was a little overloaded.
It was just amazing to see Cody Webb get over the "tire wall" He made his KTM look like a trials bike. It was so tough this year that only 11 riders made it to LDS 3. I think that I'm not quite ready to do this race until I've got a lighter bike and more race time in the saddle. I certainly don't regret sitting on the sidelines and watching it. The ZipTy endurocross section was a tough challenge for all. Watched a guy trying to finish the section on a dual sport WR426. He was beat and his 280lb mount wasn't giving him an inch, the small gathering of us who were watching and the sweep riders all cheered for him when he cleared it. The teeter totter was tough for the newbies and pros alike. Hillclimbs were unforgiving and sections not seen by the crowd were relayed to the crowd by Larry Huffman via remote locations. I thought my honey would be bored but even she said it was one of the most exciting races she's ever seen. I couldn't agree more This is truly an event where the spectators can get up close and keep riders motivated to soldier on.
Here is what I know so far In the morning you have a short prolog for the pros. That short pro rider only sets there starting order for the start of LDS2 Where the pros will start in front of the rest of us. At 9am there was round 1 of LDS where all the experts on down in skill level lined up no pros in this race. LDS 1 was about 8 to 10 miles and would take the experts over 1 hour to finish. If you could finish with in 1 hour of the first expert to finish You then qualified to move on to the much harder LDS2. I did very well in LDS 1 finished better then mid pack against everyone and moved on the LDS2. For LDS 2 you were to line up side by side 2 at a time with every few seconds 2 riders would take off. I was in row 19 which was really good considering you had the pro class then the expert class. Took off riding well at the first big hill climb I got close to the top, got hooked up to the rope and was pulled over. Then it was up in the hills with super tight single track, then down from the hills and over to. The new built Ty Davis Zip Ty Racing Endurocross track section. Into the section I go up over the tires over the big triple pipe section and into the matric. Now comes the fun the telephone poles were spaced just short enough that when you clear one . You did not have enough room to pull up and clear the second one. So in I go pull it sideways pop it up and over log 2. No problem except there are like 10 more poles to clear. Ok done with that but wait they turn us around threw the over under pipes and into the log pit. When will it end not yet because you have more tires to clear. OK finished and on to the next section a pit of logs and tires. But wait if you have nerves of steel take the titer totter and you will miss the first 3 poles and tires. Well I took the titer totter and only had to clear the last pole and tire. Now no time to rest because it is up the National hill climb by the Glen Helen hill sign. All I could do was pin it and hope for the best. Well up I go pinned but there is no way so here comes the hook and rope again. Except this time I have stalled the Husky WR 250 and the puller say, john you get that thing started or we are going to un hook you and you can slide all the way to the bottom. Ever try to start a WR 250 on a near vertical wall. After a few desperate kicks it lit . Now I got pull # 2 for the day. Up and over and on my way to the next section. Road along no real problem even the crazy big down hill was no problem.Until the wall of tires stacked like 5 high. They are really big earth moving tires stacked in a pyramid .They have no center, so watch you do not fall in. Lucky for me I have friends and now 4 of my best buddies work together to pull push and shove 4 bikes up and over. We all make it and off we go for more of this stuff. Now it is up in the hills again with natural good old mother nature stuff to ride. I ride for some time and after a few more check points am told you are done buddy. YOU HAVE HOUR OUT. But if you want to continue just so you can say you finished go for it. Well I am stupid and really wanted to finish so on ward I go. At the next check point I am told the pro and few experts who did made the cut off time were to start. There were only 11 total riders who did make LDS3. So I took the easy road back and got a unofficially finish. Was told I got the WIN went farther then any one else in either the 250 or open class 50a. I am so happy with my performance this is my 5th year and I really believe LDS 2 was the hardest so far. I have been riding a lot and walking every morning along with using some healty supplements from Zip Ty Racing. I will be 59 next month and still love this stuff. After 4 years at LDS on the Husky 165 I rode the old Italian WR250 It has all the power I need and worked great. Would be nice if it had a button for that big hill. I so want a new bike and plan to have one by the end of the year. I ran the Golden Tyre 216AA Fatty up front For LDS 1 I ran a Golden Tyre Rocky 523 in the rear it worked great. Then for the harder LDS2 I used the same used Golden Tyre I had used at King of the Moto The 216 sticky with a drilled mousse. That tyre set up is like cheating There are a few people who have helped me this year that I want to thank Moose Racing, MC/Superstore, FMF, Zip Ty Racing and Golden Tyres. With out there help I could not do this. Now in two weeks it is the Big Bear all hard way 180 mile they call it a dual sport ride event. I will call it my LDS3 It will be hard since I have to ride my Husky 510 with a plate I keep learning a lot and will be back next year, but first there is King of the moto To get my new Husky ready for
I have not seen any results posted yet. I know Dolton From Zip ty racing won the expert class LDS1 I heard that Mike Brown and Colton Hacker from Husky were both doing well but later in the race had problem and fell back There were only 11 guys total that qualified for LDS 3 of which I believe only like 4 finished I also am looking forward to seeing some results but the club has so much clean up work to take care of first
Yes I am not any faster but I so feel better during and after the race. If the races are longer and harder I do better. Cory Graffunder told me about 6 months ago he said you put race gas in your bike so put the best race gas aka food and drink you can find in you body. It works I was not that tired after wards. Only 11 guys qualified for the main LDS 3 of those 11 top riders in the worlds only 4 finished. You had riders who have raced all over the world and have won other world class events not finish. I feel so blessed at my age to still be out there so yes my new program is working to keep me out there longer
http://dirtbikemagazine.com/race-reports/last-dog-standing-2015 the stories and videos are now starting to show up
At min 2.58 on the start of LDS2 and then at Min 3.48 on the titter totter I want to go do this again so much fun
