So, was quite happy to change out the oil and gave the forks a good rinsing of new oil, put back together and noted a significant improvement in response from fork. The old oil was almost BLACK!! Had put on 50 hours last season after taking ownership from a previous owner. It was overdue. So...I brought back compression and rebound clickers back to factory spec and notice...drip...drip...drip coming from the bottom of the compression area...arrgh...guess, I'll have to dissassemble the bottom end of fork as well. Thought I was saving time and money...lesson learned..
You sure it's coming from the compression adjuster, and not just running down to the bottom of the fork from a leak somewhere else?
Yup. properly set height in clamps and cleaned the seals with my handy saver cleaner. No trail down the stancion. It stops when I close it (turn clockwise in) and backed it out the standard 12 clicks..more than 12 clicks and it definitely is leaking from the adjuster..must be a seal inside the lower part of fork. After spending 100 bucks on 2 x 19 mm wrenches, fork oil, and a proper torque wrench today...decided will take the left fork off and have it rebuild properly at the local bike shop...unless I start watching more you tube clips and get motivated to tear it apart...wife won't allow another day in the garage tinkering as it is now officially "family day" long weekend
Those don't usually leak, but it can happen. The o-ring that seals it probably got torn; you'll have to disassemble the adjuster to get at it. A decent suspension shop will be able to take care of it no problem.
HEY! Looks like a good external cleaning with incessant backing off and turning in of the compression ajduster has resolved the drip/leak Also, saw a great you tube vid....removing the lower assembly looks pretty easy..just need to get yet another tool (21 or 22 mm socket and fork brace driver). Will pick these up and attach the forks and rebuild (replace parts as needed) during a period of wet and cold weather...a rainy day project
