125-200cc Lectron - Anybody Running a 38?

Just like everybody else, I am considering popping for a Lectron and from all of the threads I have perused, it appears everybody says that a 36 or a 38 will suffice - has anybody tried the 38?

I have swapped back and forth between 165's with both the 36 and 38. I couldn't see, feel, or witness a difference when riding below 4-5000'. Literally no discernible difference. Now as you go up in elevation from there you will start to see the 38 perform better at larger throttle openings as the air thins out. The small bores don't have huge vacuum pressures and the less restriction at altitude the better.

Keep in mind that the 165 is not a high rpm screamer like the 125/144. If you are spending any significant time at higher rpms > 10K rpm then you probably will have a slight advantage with the 38 there. Hopefully someone with the 125/144 and experience with both can chime in.

I've got a 38 (original versions with 3-1XL rods) for both my brothers 144 and mine has been like the village bicycle, it's been on 125, 250, 300, and 360. I haven't tried the 36 on the 125, but it seems to run strong with the 38. The 36 would likely be a better fit I think, and I'll probably see about stealing the 38 from him for the 390, and buying him a new 36 with the new rod and milled body.

I used the 38 on my 165 all year last year and it worked great. Sold my old 2008 cr165 this week and ordered another 38 for my to be build 2013 wr165. I like carb that much and I want to try 38 on my 2012 ktm 250sx before buying another lectron for it.

Tried both the 36mm and the 38mm on the 125 144 and the 165, On the 144 it may of gained a tiny bit more right at the top with the 38mm. on the 165 cannot tell the difference at all, And the 125 also feels totaly the same bottom to top with either fitted.

I think the cool take home message is that there was no difference in performance between the two sizes at any reasonable altitude. Get to 7000' and above and the 38 helps. But below that the metering rod is so good at sensing demand that the bigger bore doesn't hurt the bottom end that I could determine at all. Very cool carbs once setup correctly.

Interesting ... but apart from performance, is there a gas consumption difference ? Maybe the 36 makes better MPG ?

Should work great. Carefully measure the length of your stock carb before you order. I'm running Lectrons on my TE 250 and SM450R. Easy to adjust and you run just a single pull throttle cable, no push cable.

Kelly, Does Lectron make a 28mm?

Might have to get a 28mm Lectron for my hopped up CRF150F!

They make a 28mm but everything else about it is the same size as the big carbs. I looked into it for a yz85 and there is no reasonable way to make it fit.
